Does turning the lights off during late summer evenings save energy, because the days are longer?

Answer:
Well that is the main reason that daylight savings time came about. Daylight Saving Time has been used in the U.S. and in many European countries since World War I. At that time, in an effort to conserve fuel needed to produce electric power.

Daylight Saving Time does save energy. Studies done by the U.S. Department of Transportation show that Daylight Saving Time trims the entire country's electricity usage by a small but significant amount, about one percent each day, because less electricity is used for lighting and appliances.
Energy use and the demand for electricity for lighting homes is directly related to the times when people go to bed at night and rise in the morning. In the average home, 25 percent of electricity is used for lighting and small appliances, such as TVs, VCRs, and stereos. A good percentage of energy consumed by lighting and appliances occurs in the evening when families are home. By moving the clock ahead one hour, the amount of electricity consumed each day decreases.

So to answer your question Yes, less electricity is used because people are home fewer hours during the "longer" days of spring and summer. Most people plan outdoor activities in the extra daylight hours. When people are not at home, they don't turn on the appliances and lights.
I dont think so, because on the short days we make up for it, by using more
Yes, it helps to some extent, since there is enough natural light
Turning the lights off at any time saves energy. The overall net gain depends on whether the lights are off more than they are on.
Very funny.

Nights shorter, Days longer.
turning off lights always saves energy . Also replace your light bulbs with energy efficient ones, they may cost more initially but they are worth it . I've had the same bulbs in my bathroom for over 2 years without a replacement.
hmmm now this is a tough one...OF COURSE!! lights off means no power consumption...has nothing to do with how long the days are...thats like asking if it uses less gas when 4 people carpool to work instead of all of them driving their own SUV's...
yep! whenever you're not using electricity like when you turn off lights, you're saving energy. i don't think it has much to do with how long the days are though.
Why would U even have your lights on in the evening?! Open the curtains and drapes. DUH. (Just Kiddin)... Why do we nit pick instead of doing really positive things... Like leave the car at home and ride your bike to work.
i would say yes to that one. You could open shade and curtains during the day to save even more!
