Why the number of stars in the sky at night goes on decreasing?
Answer:
It's because of increasing light pollution. Light from cities gets scattered in the atmosphere, much like sunlight does during the day. Starlight must outshine light pollution in order to be seen. As cities grow and lights increase in number, fewer and fewer stars can be seen amidst the glare in the sky.
light pollution light from cites make it harder to see stars and cites keep growing and growing and also stars explose after billions of years
Two reasons. Air pollution and light pollution. Air pollution makes it hard to see through to the cosmos, and light pollution outshines the starlight. The difference in star viewing between where I live (San Francisco) and my grandparents cabin in rural Oregon in staggering.
It may be that since we are on the outer spiral arm of the galaxy, sometimes we face the galactic core, and there are billions of stars in the sky, and sometimes we are looking outward and there are less.
It may be due to the fact that the ambient light where you are watching from is masking some of the dimmer starts that you used to see when it wasn't so light.
Try going far out into the country, at least 50 or 60 miles from any large city and see what you see. You need no reflected light in the sky to see properly. If you are anywhere on the Eastern Seabosrd of the US, you will probably not be able to find a good veiwing area less than a couple of hundred miles inland.
They really aren't decreasing. How many stars you can see with the naked eye depends on a few things. The amount of light on the ground around you will eliminate your seeing the dimmer stars, thus making it look like there is less. The air quality where you are will make a difference too. If it is hazy, smoggy, foggy or cloudy, the number of stars you see will be less also. The location on the globe where you are will also effect the number of stars you see due to their place in the sky that is visible to you. The time of year will effect it because of the tilt of the earth in relationship to the location of the stars. What you can see in the winter, for example, the constellation Orion, you may not be able to see in the summer at all.
Light pollution from cities' lights.
see how we humans progress, ironic?
because of pollution.pollution is an evil for environment.because of air pollution the number of stars at night goes on decreasing.but if you see the villages of Indianat night u will find them more due to less pollution.
it just is the illusion of your eyes. the number is same always, but the pollution level of our places has made it look like so
Night Vision--We can only see stars if it is dark enough, which means being near a city or any light source will reduce the number of stars you can see. To see more, drive to a rural area where there are no lights at all, turn your car off, give your eyes a few minutes to adjust and enjoy the view on a clear night.
Air pollution (smog or just smoke) my cut down on what you can see, but getting far from city and industry leaves you with breath-taking views and hope.
Light Pollution? LIGHT POLLUTION? WTF! A source of light is not pollution. The light itself does not harm the environment in any way, now the heat givin off by the light-maybe. It must be nice to slap the word pollution on to everything. Find a book on the constellations, look for the big dipper, the north star, ect. Those stars have been there for, well for as long as man has been sailing (we know that much). You might have to go out into the country to see them-because the Lights in the cities will prohibit your view. Also, keep in mind, when you're looking at a star-you're not seeing it in real time, you're seeing it as it was X million (billion) years ago.
Except for extremely small amount the actual number of stars in the sky takes billions of years to change. The number which are visible by one staying in same location is effected by earth's rotation, weather conditions in different levels of the atmosphere, and ground lighting around you.
A recent re-count done in Florida has the number of stars and wars increasing. Known as the Bush influence.
up to thousands
I feel sorry for all of you that live in or near a city. I am able to go out my door at night and see billions and billions of stars on a clear night. Gotta love the country. In season I can see the northern lights.
Yes I believe so !
