Ways to reduce energy usage at home?

I am the leader of my tenant association and we want to put together an energy pledge with ways to reduce energy and water usage. Any Ideas?

Answer:
Wow! that is so condsiderate of you to do this for the enviroment. There are many ways to reduce energy and water at your home. SImple things too that aren't to tricky. I'll give you a general list:
1. Use floresent light bolbs
2. When you're not in a room, don't have the lights on
3. Hand wash your dishes or use plastic cups, plates, forks, ect. instead of running the dishwasher.
4. When showering, only shower for 5 minutes, do this by setting a timer and when it goes off, get out.
5. Turn all electronics off at night, you're not using them so why have them on?
6. Unless it's a rainy day, open your curtains to get light, and don't turn them on unless needed.
7. When your brushing your teeth, don't let the water run, each person will svae 8 gallons of water a year by doing this.
8. Unless an article of clothing is dirty and not re-wearible, don't put it in the wash. If you can wear the clothing and it won't smell, then hang it back up.
9. Re-cycle. One of the easiest things to do to help conserve energy in the actual enviroment
10. Small things help out a lot such as :using both sides of the paper. ***Bring home some extra scrap paper from work and rip it up and use the back as paper for notes and other usages, also things like turning your hose off, helps too.
I hope i helped! i think that it is very important that we all pitch in and do our part for the envirmoent. Even with cars and whatnot, the envirmoent is everyone's home we should all take care of it because it means so much and most people take it for granted! god luck with your pledge!

Make it VOLUNTARY with a list of suggestions such as fluorescent bulbs.
Switch to those new bulbs and get the things that go into the toilet that use less water...
Wal Mart sell's both and each resident can do it themselves.
The best way to fight climate change is to donate to either a well known charity, or a non-profit carbon offsetter. Websites like www.CO2Debt.com screen charities for efficiency and allocate donations to them. You can look for other carbon offset programs, but a lot of them are for profit, Co2debt.com is a non profit group.
