Check out "The Garage" as a lot of the college kids hang out there.
Porter Square is just a short ride on the Red line away from Harvard square. It's where you'll find some of the better Japanese restaurants in the area, particularly at the Porter Exchange building, a very short walk from the Porter Square train stop.
If you head to the Charles River, you'll find a park running up and down the river on both sides. There are community boating options, including canoes and sailboats up and down the River, not to mention a number of parks and recreational areas.
If you're into D&D style table top gaming, hunt up Pandemonium Books, near the Cambridge Police Station. They have a gaming room in the basement.
