What is more polluting for the envionment?

High-denisty or lower density living

Answer:
High density living requires less travel and makes public transportation much easier to implement. Thus it is far less polluting overall than low density living, particularly when well-designed. For example, in high density living you often have the option to walk or bike to your destination, assuming there are good sidewalks and bike lanes/paths. Or you can take public transportation if there's a good system. Even if you drive, you're usually driving short distances. This is far more efficient than living in the suburbs and having to drive long distances to get anywhere.
Life pollutes the environment.
Residents in compact cities consume 335 gallons LESS per year of gasoline than residents in sprawled metorpolitan area (e.g., Boston vs. Phoenix).

High-density cities tend to have better public transportation which is used mroe frequently.

Air pollution is a concern, but IF a spralwed city has good air quality standards, that would fix the problem.

Compact city growth means less urban sprawl which means less development of rural environemtns, like forests, etc.
Obviously, the countries having a low carbon footprint per inhabitant are the highly populated ones:

- Japan/Taiwan/Germany/UK

The ones having 2 till 4 times the same emissions per capita are the low density ones:

- US/Canada/Australia
More polluting? Well, you can live a more modern life in a high density area and be less polluting than a modern life in a low density area, but by living an environmentally savvy life in a low density area you can mitigate the effects of your lonelier life. :)
the one that uses the most energy ,gas ,Petrol, electricity etc
