We throw away 30 billion bottled water bottles per year??!!?

It's true, and 80%--yes, 4 of every 5--of those go right into the landfills. Join me in never again buying bottled water. See this link for more sickening stats:

It's critical for our future.

Answer:
I don't know about those folks who say their tap water isn't drinkable. I live in SF where the tap water is all right, but I still BRITA filter it, so it tastes better. And I bring my cycling water bottle to work and to the gym. (It'll last for years. Just gotta make sure to keep it clean) I am probably avoiding using 250 disposable bottles a year. I think filtering works wonders on water so people should try it before knocking it. RECYCLING is nice, but not using as much is better.
wow
Nice link..
that's it?
I thought it was more!
We need to recycle more!
I recycle all my bottles.
we need water man...
tap water sucks cause of all the pollution and what not also. I don't know where u live.. but i'd be sick all the time if i drank the tap water here!
They should do a report on how effective filtering is..
Not sure it removes everything...

I personally drink Fiji water.
Ahhh ahhh ahhh! Run for your lives!
Sorry, but I cannot drink the tap water. But I will buy larger containers of water so that I am not throwing out bottles so often.
Tap water tastes exactly the same as bottled water once it's been in the fridge long enough. For all you people who claim you can't drink tap water here's some news: Bottled water usually is your municiple tap water with a fancy label. Don't fall for advertising gimicks!

We can't just depend on reycling either because the plastic can only be recycled once. All that does is delay the garbage from getting to the dump.
What if we recycle the bottles?? I am an avid bottled water drinker because our regular water is well...disgusting.

But I recycle every single one. Is this okay?
I recycle my plastic bottle of ALL kinds. That way I can be sure none of them show up in a local landfill.

Once recycled, they come back as new bottles, toys, furniture, construction materials, etc.

Regarding this product. I think me, and my neighbors are doing a good deed for our future.
Recycle those bottles and make another Prius.
Don't buy water in containers, small OR large. Get your own reusable containers and refill them at a grocery-store purifier.

Why? Because new plastic containers off-gas. They leach very toxic chemicals into the water. Especially if that water sits in the container for a month... especially if it gets hot in the truck or your car. You're drinking industrial waste.

The same is true if you drink bottled soda :( (and that's why soda always tasted better in glass bottles.)

However, older plastic bottles off-gas MUCH MUCH less... kinda the way the "new car smell" or "new carpet smell" goes away after awhile.

So... Buy your own durable container and re-use it.

If it's plastic, it'll off-gas for awhile, so just fill it with tap water and provoke it to off-gas. Leave it in the hot interior of your car in the sun for a few days... then dump the water. Do that a few times, then wash it out.
Don't forget about the amount of fuel necessary to make those bottles. What I find really funny is all those people that think bottled water is better than tap water. Tap water has to meet the requirements of the Clean Water act, regulated by teh EPA, bottle water does not. Much bottled water is no more than tap water, Dansani is a perfect example.
Taste might be the only reason.
Sorry but our tap water isn't drinkable so we buy bottled water and recycle each and every bottle we drink. Maybe if the bottled water companies put a deposit on them as I have seen that Michigan does, people would not throw them away but bring them in for the deposit money.
Have you ever tried carrying water to work in a recycled paper bag?

I was thinking of using clay jugs but firing the clay requires the use of fossil fuel for the kiln or burning wood for the fire causes CO2 admissions.

Also did you know that those pipes that carry the water to your house were and still are made of petroleum by products. I guess that is better than the lead pipes the Romans used.

Anyway once we get the environment cleaned up we will be able to go down to the stream in our back yard and dip the water out with our hands like back in the good old days.
It doesn't have to be that way, the solution is not buying/not buying bottled water, but to adhere to the rules of "ecology", there's no way around.
Or you can be smart and do this crazy thing called recycling. :) It's what my family does.
