If you live by a beach are you there everyday in the summer. Do you have preference as to what you take there?

The beach is fine sand and clean but let the sea breeze be your power to sail a few miles off shore and there the sea is crystal clean and so much better than the crowded beach.
No, I live the beaches where I live are sort of dirty, but I have a pool and I'm in that everyday.
Take a towel and a cute beach page filled with a book/magzine, my ipod, sunglasses, sunscreen, and water

I used to live by the beach and I'd take:
towel
sunscreen
bottle of water
food
bag containing phone, wallet, keys etc.
The less the better.
