Reusable totes?

My friend and I are in search of some reusable tote bags. But our local grocery stores don't carry any. Looking for something very sturdy, large to carry many groceries and other goodies. Would love to get some sites that carry a wide variety of these totes. And would be even better if we could purchase using money orders or personal checks.

Answer:
Check LLBean...they have several different sizes of "Boat Totes." Each and every product they sell has a lifetime gaurantee-we bought these boat totes 8 years ago and haven't had a problem yet-they are the sturdiest totes out there and are back with a lifetime gaurantee that if ANYTHING happens to them...you can get a new tote with no questions asked.

Check out what's available using Froogle.

I've set a cool search in the source section for hemp totes.
Consider organic unbleached cotton.

Shop responsibly!
The north face has canvas tote bags, or at least they used to... Anyway, canvas is the way to go. Decorate able, sturdy, large, and soft, they are awesome and last forever!
I've picked most of mine up from various organizations that I've joined and donated to-such as Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife, etc. Also, put up a sign at work or school. Often people have them lying around that they are not using and would be happy for you to take them off of their hands.
I know you requested sites for tote bags which are great... no doubt... But... something else to mildly consider as a passing thought perhaps.
I found some handy mesh bags at my local dollar store. I use them for my groceries... they are sturdy and really handy because they have a draw string so items don't tumble out into the vehicle... (had an orange turn green under the car seat some years ago and since then...well let's say I'm glad I have the bags with the drawstrings.)
I did buy a denim tote for canned goods because it easily slips over my shoulder... it replaces 4 plastic bags for my purchases.

Good luck with finding totes to your liking!
Would you consider sewing them yourself?

Sorry that I didn't help...just wanted to provide other thoughts on this topic.

Good day!
You can find them in some specialty health food and green food stores for low prices. Environmental groups often give them for free with a membership. There are several online stores that sell really nice ones for a low price.

This is a worthy cause. As noted by Ideal Bite:
" * Save oil and/or trees. In the US, about 12 million barrels of oil and 14 million trees go to producing plastic and paper bags each year.
* Reusing makes cents. Stores like Albertsons and Wild Oats offer a 5-penny discount if you bring your own.
* Be a role model. Other shoppers'll watch and learn.
* Make sure plastic bags don't harm sea creatures. They're one of the 12 most commonly found items in coastal cleanups."

You can purchase cloth bags from a number of places. You can even get them free from many environmental organizations when you join them. Of the sites listed on Ideal Bite, Blue Lotus (http://www.bluelotusblankets.com/product... is the cheapest and are very cool looking. 3 bags for $15. The site Reusablebags.com is pretty good as well.

If you have a lot of plastic bags, there are some stores that carry garbage bins made to use plastic bags as liners, so that could be an option.

You can also check Earth 911 for local plastic bag recycling options.

I listed the links for all these resources. Also, don't forget the golden rule: if you carried stuff around a store in your hands and made it to checkout, you can probably carry them to your car without the need for a bag!
If you have an IKEA store nearby, try there. The one nearest me has some really great, sturdy, surprisingly cute cotton tote bags for sale right now. I bought a huge one for $15 - it holds about half a grocery cart full of stuff! I also bought a smaller one for $5 that's perfect for two half-gallon containers of milk.
