How much pollution will occur due to the Live Earth concerts promoted by AL Gore.?
How much fuel will be spent by both the performers and concert goers to arrive at these concerts? (Especially at the arctic?)
How many tons of coal and fuel oil did it take to produce the
Electricity it will take to power these events. From the news reports it was stated “admittedly many say they are more interested in the free music show, than the message.” So my real question is did Al Gore do more harm and good, by this smoke and mirror show? Which by the way has been a pattern of his entire environmental/political life, all smoke and mirrors.
Answer:
According to drudge report and estimated 33,500 tonnes of Eco carbon will be used for this event. It is amazing to me how all these so called rock-star-politicians want us all to change our habits, but their waste is just A-OK!!! I read also where only 1/3 of all the waste such as bottles, cans etc. will be recycled at these events due to the fact they can't even find an outfit that can recycle this garbage. Also am curious - as out here in the western US going through a heat wave - how many people are going to stay indoors, with their air conditioners going to watch this 24 hour spectacle include also the cost of the electricity that will be used to run the TVs? And why is it that in the 1980's Al Gore was BASHING Madonna over her waste and now she is headlining for his concert in London? Also - here in So California where Al Gore the 3rd just got arrested for driving over 100 mph in a so called Eco-friendly auto (a prious) of which he is a salesman for at a dealership in Los Angelas area is now going to use his arrest as a sales pitch - by saying "these cars are sooo good - they can even go over 100mph" oh well, enough venting..and hasn't been getting warmer since the ICE AGE????
i have a nasty feeling the whole event will silently BACKFIRE on the plans for a greener earth.
the whole idea of a gig for a very fake cause just seems ridiculous to me.
of course its hypocrisy but that sort of thing is in our faces 24/7 these days
Oh my gosh! I wondered the exact same thing, but He is a bringing a big awareness to this issue, and lets hope that something good comes from it! He IS making the effort, so we should give him some kind of credit.
It's a bad thing to raise awareness? Should Al Gore just disappear?
Who cares, as long as Al gets his name out there.
Another way to look at it: the initial spike from added pollution -- and I'm not familiar with what measures are in place to mitigate this -- will be offset if even a fraction of the audience takes the message to heart and spreads the word to friends, family, and coworkers. This is a movement. This is part of the early stage of that movement.
Are you so pure as to be able to cast stones at someone who's trying to move us in the right direction? The extra pollution is not an example of hypocrisy, but it is ironic, and understandable if one takes the long view.
You forgot about the litter caused by all the bottles of water and other snacks. I am a huge environmentalist. I also really enjoyed Mr. Gores movie. But this looks and smells like a cash grab to me.
It's ashame. This is a huge problem, and our best solution is par for the course, but lets throw a huge concert. Oh ya, Mr. Cheaney is goin to think "hey, I love the black eyed peas. Hey george, maybe we should respect Kyoto now!! " Right.
Exactly. And how many salmon will get churned up by the dams making all this extra energy for the concerts?
