What ideas canyou share about keeping cool in the summer heat?

From a forum I was on, I learned that in Germany people keep cold water in the bathtub, and go and wet their feet and legs throughout the day. After trying it I can say it truely works.

Do you have any other ideas apart from the usual?

Answer:
Most Architects these days use passive thermal design methods to moderate the built environment. this involves a clear understanding of the climate at the particular site of the proposed building.

Many of these methods have been used as vernacular solutions thoughout the history of the region... but modern development often involves scraping a grid for roads and landing homes, like motor vehicles straight out of space... they have not been influenced by the locality at all, not in materials selection nor in orientation or design.

If you want to be cooler is summer, engage someone with real credentials to come and take a look at your home and give you advice. If you get a little passionate about it... you can lobby your local authority to enagage an expert to provide demonstrative examples for the benefit of the whole community to adapt to their circumstances.

It is rarely very difficult to make things immensely better.

I could give examples.. but I would need to have some knowledge of your climatic conditions as well as those particular to your site... wind direction, tree locations etc all have a bearing on the answers given.
Yes. Check the discover button, this question has been asked a thousand times before.
avoid sweet drinks, avoid sugar and sugar substitutes, drink lots of water and stay out of the heat as much as is possible. SHADE your house as much as is possible.
Believe it or not, kids have a great idea. Running around in the sprinklers. Kiddie Pools. Running the sprinklers in the heat of the day, and getting the trees wet. Also get your window screens wet. Of course, swamp coolers are valuable if you know the trick. You've got to open a window and let the air exhaust rather than just accumulate humidity indoors.
I don't care for air conditioning...don't like the constant hum or the bill...I keep cool by drinking a lot of iced drinks and minimal clothing...some of the best advice I have ever received is to run cold water over your wrists...it gives me chills every time...
To keep cool in the summer heat, wear a hat and take a handkerchief, bandanna and wet it, ring out the water and tie it around your neck. You may also spray your face, legs with water and then use a portable fan to fan those areas - it is really cooling.
yes i do. drink a lot of fluid especially water. go to the beach, i heard the water is delicious or to the pool. go to some of this amusement park and have fun.
