Answer:
no roundup - that will kill some of the marine life -- contact a marine/boating store - they will know or know who to contact about this
don't try roundup or other herbicides.Check some of the 'natural pond' sites for suggestions on additives not harmful to plants and fish.If the lake is large the situation maybe out of your control.
I have an awful feeling that this is a serious question. NO don't use round up. There are many reasons for algae growing in your lake. Call you local agriculture department and either ask them to come and test the lake or take some algae to them to test. Find out what is causing it to overgrow. It maybe that the lake needs stocked with a different type of fish or pesticides are going into the lake.
What ya need to do is to stop fertilizing your lawn with commercial fert.! The leading cause of large algae blooms is the over use of ferts. Why are you even thinking of poisoning the lake to get rid of the algae? Would you burn down your house to get rid of your cockroaches? Maybe if you just drink your Round-up, you wouldn't care about the algae any more!
oh yeah...it's also against the law !
If it is a county/state lake, they can help you with ridding it of algea. You would NEVER want to put anything like round-up in a lake. it will do damage to the ecosystem and harm many of the natural species in that area, including birds, turtles, and other wildlife that come to the area to feed. You can contact your local parks and wildlife offices also, and they can reccomend something that is safe to use. Sometimes, if you get permission, you can add natural species that live in the area that would eat the algea, but it is important to discuss this first with wildlife workers as they will know which species and how many are safe/appropriate.
I live on a private lake and we had the same problem. Some people wanted to try Roundup, but the property owners association said no, wait until they contacted the Game and Fish Commission. Sure enough they said DO NOT put Roundup in the lake. They put in some kind of fish that eats the algae and other unwanted growth. Check with your state or county game and fish commission. They should stock your lake for free.
Good luck!
Check your state laws first to find out if you can add carp to your lake, pond, etc.

Carp will eat algae.
Roundup in the lake; are you kidding me? Have you ever read the label on the bottle? If you wouldn't put it in your drinking water, don't dump it in a lake.
Algae is actually beneficial, albeit unattactive. More builds up due to certain weather conditions and will clear sooner or later. There is a friendly bacteria you can buy that feeds on algae but I don't think you want to buy enough for a lake as it would be WAY too costly. Leave it be.
