Wind Farms - I love'em. Sustainable energy without being necessarily permanent. Also aesthetically.?

beautiful in a 21st century way. What's your view

Answer:
I think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread! If I owned a large amount of land on top of a mountain, I would certainly lease it to the wind farms. The detractors say they are harmful to wildlife, but I think wild life will certainly learn to steer clear of them! The world has got to stop using fossil fuels to save the earth.
i think they look cool, modern and interesting, for some reason a lot of people don't like them though. We should have more of them considering how windy our little island is we should be able to create tonnes of electricity this way
Totally agree
Mesmerising and sooo relaxing to watch them, and listen to them... I love em..
I have two near one of my offices and I often pop over to watch them when things get heavy at work..

and they do a great job!!
theres a couple in a field where i live. love the contrast between countryside and our advancing technology.

Strictly speaking,a wind farm is a renewable energy which is not necessarily sustainable. As the energy production is both carbon and economically" free"
Wind farms are one of the only realistic large scale energy generation options for the UK as they really do produce large amounts of electricity (not to be confused with small windmills-that can be bought in diy outlets)
I think they are fantastic!!- Awesome engineering and majestic too.
You a nutcase mate, they have just built a 20 tower wind farm on one of the most beautiful views in Scotland. The view from Stiling Castle to the Highland line, How could they do this, there are plenty of open moors to the south west of the castle, behind some low hills. When they proposed the siting of the windmills the name they gave suggested they would be behind the hills, not in front of them.
Bloody eyesore, totally pointless, inefficient waste of time and destroying vast acreages of our country, as well as killing off wildlife, shame on you for promoting the pestilence!
Yeah, great. I concur... Be good if we could have turbines on top of houses in the town too... it's just a shame that you can't get more energy out of them than you do... and whatever happens, when the wind drops, the power goes off... so could be tricky to handle peaks in energy demand, think I heard something about how they'd solved that problem, but I'm not sure...
They kill birds
I agree with you totally. At least they are not belching out copious amounts of smoke from the power station chimney.Although the clouds coming from the cooling towers are only water vapour, you've got to admit that the towers are bloody great ugly things. The wind farms are on the other hand quite beautiful and somewhat elegant. And they don't need tons and tons of imported coal to keep them operating.
If you have ever driven up the M1,past Sheffield at the Meadowhall site, you drive past 2 disused cooling towers. They are right next to the M1,apparently they are too near the road to allow them to be knocked down.you see just how ugly they really are.More windfarms please.
I like water mills, they are a forgotten resource. There is a lot of energy in rivers which could easily be captured in various ways.
I LOVE THE WINDTURBINES I COULD SIT & WATCH THEM ALL DAY. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL THEY SHOULD PUT THEM EVERYWHERE. THEY ARE LIKE A STRESS RELEAF. THEY ARE LIKE THE LITTLE WINDMILLS WE HAD IN OUR GARDEN WHEN WE WERE KIDS. BUT, THEY HAVE GOT BIGGER JUST LIKE US.
i agree. so many benefits, practical in many locations, they're aesthetically pleasing (tomorrow's windmills), certainly are sustainable, provide sufficient current to power or supplement a small sustainable community.

...and when placed out of the way of migratory bird flyways, they hardly even kill a one.
aesthetically neutral, economically unreliable
What wind farms?

I drove out west on vacation last September and the only ones I saw were in OK, the Texas panhandle and a few in New Mexico. Blue State Colorado was devoid of them on mountain and plain alike until I got to the Idaho border and I couldn't tell which side of the line they were on. Then NONE through Utah, Las Vegas and Arizona. And its not like there was a scarcity of land or wind or anything. Oh and no solar anywhere.
I think they are too big... and they are always plonked right on top of the best landscapes. They are aesthetically savage and brutalist (literally) by 20th century ideals.

Why not have one or two incorporated into your home.. with a solar panel or two as well... sell it back to the grid. Keep it all at a smaller more serviceable more failureproofed scale. link it all together like the internet. A global power grid.
They should be painted line pin wheels then children will like them and be interested in energy sources.
I don't care what they look like. Will they be able to meet our requirements? NO chance so a waste of time and money, sorry.

The choice is a simple one. Status quo or Nuclear.
I live in Abilene, Texas where the Horse Hollow Wind Farm is located (the largest wind farm in the country and more farms going up everyday.) Many people out here are complaining and suing over them but I think they are great, all the way around. My only problem is the power generated here goes to Florida and is not available to local consumers. I would love to have a wind turbine in my backyard or on top of my house!
