Tigers... Vasectomy... balancing the ecosystem?

Last night in the telly I saw this group of people performing a vasectomy on a lion. the reason given was in order to maintain a stable ecosystem in the area. I know there must be other ways. I totally diagree with the idea.

What do you think? should a creature be demasculated?

Answer:
Maybe the question should be, “What is a vasectomy”? I don’t think you understand what a vasectomy is. While the cat certainly didn't agree with getting the surgery, do you really think 1/2 million men each year, in America alone, would volunteer to get one if it mean they were emasculated? What about the millions of men, in Europe that get one every year?

I had a vasectomy 20 years ago. My girlriend, boss, and friends can attest to the fact that I am not emasculated.

Are you sure they didn’t say they had performed a castration on this Lion? That would have emasculated him. But a vasectomy is something he would be none the wiser of.

If they wanted him to continue to mate with females, compete for Alpha status, but not make more baby lions, then they would have performed a vasectomy. They only need to do fewer procedures because he would continue to compete for female loins, thus preventing other males from mating with the females in his pride.

If they castrate lions then they have to do more of them. This is because the castrate males would be emasculated, as you said. They would no longer compete with other males. In this case they would have to perform the surgery on more lions to accomplish the same population control as vasectomies would accomplish.
A vasectomy does not equal demasculated
I'd like to hear more details. Might this have been to keep this particular animals DNA from dominating future lion offspring in the region, and allow some of the also ran lions to leave their genetic heritage to future generations?

Vasectomy merely means that lion will be unknowingly firing blanks by the way, it won't change his normal inclination to let his harem find the food for him to come and gorge on. It would be interesting to see later on if he realizes the next generations of cubs are sired by the mailmen, as it were.
Many creatures overwhelming their environmental support system, environmental footprint, should be "demasculated".
Most of such creatures are humans...

Anyone using tiger products should be steralised.
It's a freakin cat and there's too many of them. The other alternative is to allow hunters to harvest them in numbers that will leave a healthy population.

It's call wildlife management. It's for the good of the wildlife.
