Just think of how many people touch money and scratch there balls and touch the money and then it touches coins which it has that smelly cobalt/nickel/metal smell. Thats the reason why.
Recycled Paper!...&Some are dirty...
Depends on where it has been. If it's new from the mint it smells different from money that has been in a vault or safe deposit box for a long time. If it is moldy it smells different again.
