Yes, I have an undeveloped lot where I plan to build a house.
Among the things that I plan to do to cut energy use is to have a large part of the living area in a basement type area that will reduce the extremes of heat and cold and will reduce the need for heating and air conditioning.
I plan to have solar hot water heated and stored in a large insulated tank. I do not plan to have solar photovoltaic cells, however because they are too expensive for the small amount of electricity that you get out of them.
I plan to have the walls that are above grade built with much larger space between the interior and exterior so there is more room for insulation in the walls.
The attic will be thoroughly insulated and it will use a fan and vents to circulate air in the attic particularly in the summer to remove heat from the attic.
The house itself will be thoroughly sealed, even at the electrical outlets to reduce the movement of air in and out.
I will build a very large and comfortable house with garage space for my many sports cars and SUVs. I will make it as energy efficient as is economically practical, because it will save me money.
Possibly a quonset hut style structure.
Use of trees for shade, and maybe a fireplace for heat. Greywater drains. Possibly a goat for weed control. I do appreciate the straw bale house designs.
