What tax breaks are there for solar energy in the federal & california level?

Answer:
don't know
California Energy Commission (CEC) is offering cash rebates of $2.80 per kWh or 50% of the total system price, whichever is less, for the purchase of solar electric, wind and fuel cells. A cash rebate equal to $2.80 for each Watt of AC generating capacity will be sent to the owner of a new system shortly after final inspection of the system. Generating capacity is based on the size and efficiency of your system. To qualify for the rebate you must register with the CEC to insure your rebate. Information can be obtained directly from the CEC:

Federal Tax Credit A federal income tax exemption equal to 30% of the cost of the system with a maximum value of $2,000 is available for solar heating and photovoltaic systems. The credit is applied to the net cost ofthe system after the CEC rebates are subtracted from the price of the system
The federal tax incentive is 30% up to $2000 of the cost. The California incentive varies by which electric company provides you electricity. You can look at DSIRE The Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency.
