Bin tax rip off?

if the government are planning on charging us tax for our household rubbish, does that mean they are going to scrap the council tax as we already pay for refuse collection in that, otherwise we will be paying the council twice to remove our rubbish.

Answer:
I would hope so but doubt it. I think they should do more to stop over packaging on goods we buy and we could do more to recycle and cut down on what we buy. Do we really need all the food and things we buy every week. Bring back the times when milk was in glass bottles and returned daily, the butcher when all meat was wrapped in greaseproof paper then brown paper, the greengrocer when all your fruit and veg was put in brown paper bags and please can we go back to having your own shopping bags and banning all the plastic carrier ones. If the CO-OP can supply carrier bags that start to degrade in 18 months and disappear in 3 years why cant all the big supermarkets do the same.
i call it "welcome to the new world order" they are so out of order its not even laughable!
Course not! What's more it's one of the only services some people get from their CTax
You know what will happen then.people will start to burn what they can so they don't get charged and they are going to pollute the atmosphere even more.
Here, Here. Lets have a revolution!! Or a riot!!
I reckon we'll start seeing private rubbish disposal companies setting up, or I hope so! They could charge each house a quid a week and still make a load. That way, none of our tax money should go towards refuse disposal because 1. they won't know how much waste we have & 2. they won't be the ones disposing of it!

The government will use any pathetic excuse they can to rip us off and put our tax money into useless areas when some places in the UK are still very much deprived.

I think we should riot too. How about everyone takes their rubbish to Downing Street every week until they change this stupid policy??!
yes another stealth tax.
Sorry no - don't be so naive!

No Government stops taxing people! We will be told we must reduce our waste to meet the EU regulations and if we don't there will be even more taxes.

The lunatic result of this will be more fly tipping, which will then cost us more as tax payers to clean up! The Government doesn't care, they will have met their EU target, that's all they are interested in.
government = jaffas
in ireland when charging for rubbish collections by weight was introduced, people simply started to burn it in the garden!
increasing health problems & breaking yet more EU rules,
AND if we start to follow suit......
i dread to think about it.
my daughters breathing is already bad enough with global warming/climate change, increases in the pollen count & more cars on the road, than there's ever been.

i hope this will just be another one of the damp squibs that B'Liar will take with him abandoned as a stupid idea in 30-odd days time.
HOPE.
fingers X's eh?
The reason our council taxes have increased in the past is partly because we are producing too much waste. Councils are required to pay £24 government landfill tax on each tonne of waste land filled, then an additional payment to the landfill owner. By recycling, the council actually generates revenue of £40 - £840 a tonne, plus saves the landfill tax through not land filling the waste. So by recycling more you will actually reduce the money the council are throwing into a big hole to spend on real things in the community.

Maybe the local councils should start using the microchips in their bins to impose a charge per kg of landfilled waste, I would say recycling rates would double overnight, and would result in a much fairer rates system for all.

Obviously there should be a reduction in rates should they intend to charge rubbish per kg, and possibly a small credit per kg of recycled material.

One way to help is making a compost heap. Up to 60% of waste is biodegradable according to DEFRA. This would equate to almost 300kg a year for some people.

Well I think something has to be done to reduce the amount of waste we use! In Germany people are happy to recycle. Why aren't people like that here? I think a lot of people in this country are just too lazy to sort through their rubbish. In Germany we have to do this, and I have no problems (both my husband and I work full time). People need to change their attitude if they want a planet left!
Fly tipping and burning will become widespread and so will putting rubbish in your neighbours bin.

It is a rip off Britain again by Labour who are supposed to look after the working classes.
introducing taxes always increases revenue , but in this case they should be revenue neutral or it wil backfire probably [ but hard to resist - the ultimate stealth tax] . My main gripe is the volume of rubbish will be the same , but in herts we have shitty little box for recycling , and a huge bin for rubbish - shouldnt we have the reverse ?
Of course its a rip off and they say those who recycle properly will receive cash back, well how much is that going to cost to implement ? more than it cost at the moment, that's for sure !
