Can you not find any restaurants in your area? I'm sure they would be happy to give you 20 or so gallons a week of vegetable oil if you told them it was helping prevent global warming.
Take their old oil and pour it through one of these before you add your methanol/NaOH mixture...

Corn.. I believe is the leading bio-diesel: however, consider that it takes both oil and an enormous amount of energy to produce Corn Based Fuels
I think certain companies are starting to come up with heaters that run on soy pelets & also there are soy candles... I would have to say Soy is the Future of Bio-Deisel
Hemp can be pressed into an oil... so why not HEMP??

I believe you can take corn to make the ethanol and ordinary diesal to make biodiesal.

The only BioDiesel I ever heard of is soy fuel and it is currently being tested/sold/used for tractor trailers and cars that can handle that type of fuel... I don't know about any others... good chance for research though...
The Best site for answers to your questions is the National biodiesel board. You can find them ant www.biodiesel.org you will need lye, water, some type of vegetable or waste cooking oil and Methanol. If you have never done this before, it is dangerous if your not careful. Methanol is wood alcohol and it is quite explosive but necessary.
Bio diesel is made from soy beans and can be used in most diesel engine vehicles with only a small decrease in mpg and horsepower. MPG decrease may be anywhere from 2-3 less than current on you MPG. Not bad considering regular gas will be up to 5 dollars or more a gallon this summer. Bio diesel is usually cheaper than regular diesel. You can get info on bio diesel and how to make your own by searching the web.
Rape is probably the preferred oil seed crop for the production of biodiesel. Rape methyl ester or RME is the only bio-diesel that is currently allowed as 100% of the fuel charge to many modern diesel engines.
