make a website on freewebs.com or a myspace or a facebook about it and get ppl to add you
if not start a club and make it fun and interesting while you teach these ppl about the harmful effects
i'd be best to start a club with young children and make FUN activites for them, have them paint or draw on paper bags and distiribute them to the local market or have their parents use it
make posters of the effects of using polythenes and post them around your neighborhood,

have a dinner party and at the end let your guests have a pamphlet of the harmful effects of polythenes and an alternative to it.
It's very difficult to MAKE people do anything except get upset.
One way to try to spread understanding is to write a song, movie, book, or tv series. Who are the people that need to understand? Write it for them.
i think u should show them!! either burn a plastic in front of them or put the plastic in a pit(9in peoples presence) cover the pit with soil and then after some days take out the plastic and show to them!! distibute paper bags and then tell them the harms of using plastics!
A good start would be to tell them exactly how they are harmful. Generalizations like "they are bad for the environment" or "they are not biodegradable," however, will not do. You need to explain exactly why this is bad, or at least undesirable (if you can).
