How much more can the West do to slow down the global warming?
Do they really not care?
Answer:
The west isn't doing much at all. We are the most environmentally unfriendly industrialized country in the world. We emit about double the Co2 gasses that China does as well. Our country isn't even concerned with global warming considering Bush pulled back our support for Kyoto. Our country is willing to go to war over oil but isn't interested in protecting the environment. It shows where their loyalties lie. In big business, not with the American people who want their earth to remain the way it is, safe to live on. Global warming is happening, the only people who dispute it are government and big business shills who want to put some doubt in your mind so you dont know what to think.
You want to know what we can do to slow down global warming? Every new house thats built should be installed with solar panels on the roof. Every house should be mandated by law to use energy efficient light bulbs. Discounts and trade ins on old air conditioners for more energy efficient ones should take place. Harness the power of the waves in the ocean which can produce a ton of power. Resarch cold fusion, one plant would be enough to power the whole state of new york. Make bio diesel/ethonol cars, mandate every car sold has to have a minimum of 40 mpg in the US within 5 years. Every coal plant that is built should be a clean burning coal plant, every dirty coal plant should be replaced within 5 years (government supported) with a clean burning coal plant.
Those are just a few things that this country can do to help stem the tide of global warming. Since we are doing nothing, and we used to be the world leader as far as policies went, this would be a great start to show the rest of the world the path to saving the earth.
Get out of your car, and onto your bicycle.
industrialized nations can do much more.
other nations already are doing much more than the united states.
if you do not believe me, compare the gas mileage and emissions on any asian autos verses American autos. then after you do that ask yourself, how can reducing emissions harm our economy when asian car makers are trouncing our automakers even while reducing emissions and increasing mileage.
Many folks in the US won't consider line-drying clothes
That would be a good place to start
Of course, countries like the USA aren“t seriously interested in reducing emissions etc, because it would endanger their standard of living. People like to talk about saving energy but few are really willing to make major sacrifices in their daily lives.
put ice cubes in their chili to rid of us hot flatutuantance
They actually have looked at the consequences and realized how economically stressful it will be. So far of all the countries that signed the Kyoto Protocol, not one has even met their goals by 75%, and the ones that have got the closest have no stopped due to the economic stress they've been through.
Well, I am a going to analyze that viewpoint with simple logic and a little economics. Here's the scenario: Let's say that a law is passed banning carbon emissions in the US by as little as 10%. Every industrial market has to then spend more money to keep their place running without releasing CO2. I have heard some pro global warming people say that there are easy solutions that are better for the environment yet cost less. That is not true. Things like wind energy would cost way more than using fossil fuels. And solar panels aren't that efficient for their high cost and low power. To supply the US with electricity, you would need a solar panel the size of Texas and constant maintenance. It's like the whole recycling/trash deal. If recycling objects is cheaper and more efficient, then why doesn't everybody do it? I don't see any difference between throwing something in a trash can than a recycling bin. That's because it is more convenient, not because they want to trash the earth. So back to the industry. Now that they have to pay more to keep their business going, they have to charge more for their products. Think about it, practically every thing you can buy goes through some kind of industrial process, even food from farms that are cleaned and milk that is pasteurized. Now that we have this increase in inflation, the value of our currency goes down, and people take all of their money from the banks, causing another Great Depression. From here, the industry has 2 ways to go. One, it either outsources and go overseas, where labor is cheaper, they can release CO2, and gain more profit. The trouble is that jobs are lost here in the US, causing a massive gain in the unemployment rate. Since people are now living off of welfare checks, the amount of money the US has to spend goes down as well. The second option is to stay here and increase the prices on their products, driving down the value of currency, and causing massive job loss as so much of our country is in poverty now, an increase in prices will only drive more into poverty. Then, you have to think about foreign countries. A lot of underdeveloped countries depend on the US for food from crops or other more industrial products. With this Great Depression, that will push underdeveloped countries down even more, and cause a global decrease in economy.
Plus, man isnt causing any global warming anyway. If u want to know more about that topic, just email me, i dont feel like taking up too much room here.
Most small countries, just entering the industrial age, can't afford to be environmentally conscience. Plus, advanced Western countries and rich corporations are exploiting these smaller countries for their cheap labor and the fact that these countries don't have environmental regulations. This make for a cheaper product and higher profit. The politicians see this as being good for the economy and a good economy is a sure fire way to be re-elected.
We could cap volcano's. We could dramatically reduce the number of cows. We could wipe out most ants, they produce the most amount of methane gas than anything on the planet. Use florescent bulbs instead of incandescent ones. Put your appliances on a strip and turn it off when not in use.
They don't make a big deal out of it, unlike some Americans.
Its just freemongering Check out this documenty on you tube its is done buy the head climitologist at MIT, and the head of the IPCC and the former co-founder of greenpeace. Its called the The great global warming swindal. It seperates fact from popular held myths of Global warming. its 8 parts or about a hour long
