You'll never convince these folk. To deny man has a significant role in this phenomenon is to admit that we ARE insignificant in the BIG PICTURE. It's all about egocentrism leading to power, leading to money.
How would you send nature a bill for all these "problems" it is causing.
People long ago were ruled over by those who knew the secrets of the gods of nature, and how to please them in order to receive rain, plentiful crops, etc. This often required the populace to make payments and/or human sacrifice.
We haven't progressed as much as we think...

yes it happens naturally but we aren't helping.

Gore is riding on the coattails of the media and the environmental scare.
Remember in the 1970's when we were running out of gasoline so we all sold our muscle cars? It was all hype.
Sure we should be concerned about the environment but it should be held in perspective.
I can understand why you look at it this way, but you just can't ignore all the statistical data that has been shown that came from scientists that studies evolution in temperature and CO² emissions over hundreds and thousands of years through drilling long pipes of ice out of the North Pole. Also, it quite odd to see that there is a scientific consensus in this, while the media is always doing the opposite: spitting hate, doubt, fear, uncertainty, etc.
You gotta admit that there are a lot of people that are going to be very unhappy if they are going to have to pay more for getting rid of garbage in a clean way then when they can get rid of it more profitable, but not without damaging the planet.
yes you are right it happens naturally. But remember the large amount that preceded the ice age wasn't caused by man kind.
as for now it is getting effected MORE by man kind which will not break the balance and another will come and take place like what nature does. But it will only do damage and get in the way of nature.
It's just like Natural extinction and extinction caused by man.

Dude science has shown that the period of warming we are experiencing now is faster than ever and that in fact the distance between the earth and sun which is predominantly responsible for changes in global temperatures (as well s volcanic events) would suggest an earth cooling but in a very short period of time the earth has heated significantly. right now it is warmer than it has been for a million years and has been positively correlated to co2 and negatively correlated to sun intensity thus supporting the theory of man made global warming and going against much longer term temperature variations

Yes of course it happens naturally. But we are speeding it up, speeding it way up. And you conservatives have decided to fight it just because you only see it as a liberal political issue. We're killing our planet, and our cities are going to be underwater. I don't necesarilly care for Al Gore, but I am certain that he does not want the ice caps to melt and our cities to go underwater just so he can say he told us so. You need to wake up and quit being ignorant.
The past cooling and warming of the Earth has most likely been caused by variations in the amount of sun light reaching it. The changes are nowhere near enough to explain the huge effects on the climat, which were caused by amplifiers. Historically, natural cycles have been followed (200 - 1000 years after the initial temperatur increase) by a rise in CO2 levels. There are vast natural sources of CO2 ( and other GHG's) that acts as amplifiers and they are released as the natural cycles warms the climate. Currently, the GHG's are released without a prior warming due to human activities and are acting as both cause, and a strong amplifying effect.

The amount of atmospheric CO2 during the last 650.000 years has varied between 180 - 300 ppm. It is currently at 383 ppm. The last ice age began 116.000 years ago, which disputes your claim of higher levels of CO2, then present, preceeding the last ice age.
I have a New Scientist magazine from 1989 in which global warming has two articles. I knew about it in the late 1970s. It was predicted in 1896. Where was Mr. Gore then? Global warming is a matter of physics and chemistry, not politics. By the time the ice caps melt, Mr. Gore will be only a memory.
Ice ages and inter-glacial periods are triggered by small changes in earth's orbit, called Milankovitch cycles by astronomers, or called "orbital forcing" by climatologists. Since earth's orbit can be computed for thousands of years into the past and future, we know that orbital forcing peaked 6000 years ago, and should be cooling the planet right now. Therefore, the warmth we're seeing now is not part of this natural cycle.

The level of CO2 in the air cycles with the ice ages too. These natural cycles of CO2 have, over the past half million years, reached low levels of about 180 ppm, and high levels of about 300 ppm.
