And as someone who dabbles in science and tries to keep aware, I do NOT think the sun is dooming us in the near future. If there is any dooming, it will be the greedy politicians and the crooked businessmen, and the self-aggrandizing Consensus, who get their answers by computer programs they made, and ignore history.
We are in orbit, and unless we make the tragic mistake of ignoring the past history of the earth being hit by space debris of great size, we will remain in orbit for a very long time.
I keep hearing rumblings that Astronomers have found asteroids on potential collision courses with the earth, and since we are forsaking real space programs to spend it all on Carbon Credits for big greedy megacorporations, what will we do when an asteroid is too close to deflect anymore??
As astronomers keep pretty close tabs on the sun, and its activities, all I can say is we are in a vigorous maximum, and history seems to tell us the prognosis is for decreasing activity over the next 2-3 decades.
But hey!, why not have such a concert! Take everybody's mind off the real issues of poverty and disease and unequal treatment of the poor and needy in the developing countries!
And deadly restrictions on US citizens to keep us in political control and unable to think for ourselves. A nice "1984" world!
Suppose we had put the expense and the energy consumed in these concerts into buying and delivering refrigerators and solar power systems to African bush hospitals?
Supposing we allowed them to copy us and exploit their own natural resources?? Instead of making treaties to shut them out?
Suppose dying Africans were more important than entertainment? What if...do you suppose?
Anyhow, according to those in the sciences of stellar life, we have many billions of years to go before the Sun burns its hydrogen up and has to swell up and gobble the inner planets for a snack.
And I am sure it is just the sun showing off a new "beauty spot"!!
And I like the tongue-with-cheek phrasing of the question!
It is generally accepted that the sun is not going to fail us for another 5 billion years. On the other hand, if global warming is real -which I think it is-, and if we don't do enough to prevent it, we are facing extinction within the next 100 years or so.
