How much energy have you sold back to power company with Solar Panels/Wind Turbines?

In the US the power company will only credit the extra power you generate and give it back when you need it. They don't actually give you any money for the extra power you make. If you make more than you use, the electric company gets to keep your extra power and sell it to somebody else.

I was all set to get a grid tied photovoltaic system. Then add solar panels until the whole south side of my roof was covered with solar panels thinking I was going to paid back every month until I found out they don't work that way.
In parts of Europe, people are making their own solar farms and selling the power to the electric company and making money.
My solar electric system is not grid tied but I have produced and used over 1000 watts of power. That is right at 2 months of my electric bills. Took me about a year and a half to generate that much power but I have a small 800 watt system. It is mainly used as a backup system for when the grid goes down. Normally it only charges the batteries and when full shuts down.
On sunny days I do turn off the house breaker so the system thinks the power is out and it takes over. It is running a 5000 BTU A/C unit and a few other items as I am typing this message.
If it was grid tied I feel that I could have back feed enough power in the same time frame to pay 4 of my electric bills.
I have learn that grid tie with battery backup is the way to go. But grid tie only with no battery backup gives a better pay back. But you have no power if the power Co. goes off line.
