Why is a deer spending the night sitting in my front yard everynight?
Answer:
Maybe she is ill? Poor baby. Or confused? Like I am. For some reason, maybe she feels safe there? I want to know too.
I would contact your Forest Preserve and ask them, maybe she IS lost or she might have a baby nearby.
is someone in the neighborhood feeding her, and i would call wildlife about her she might jump out in front of a car or something
maybe she is pregnant ,has been chased and feels safe there .
keep any dogs out
they eat flowers, alphalpha ,sweet grasses, lettuce, cabage, corn etc ,maybe you got something taste there .
you could put some food there and see if she eats to check she is not sick.
be very carefull dont let anybody try to catch her
deer are very delicate and their legs break real easy when panicked.
It could be as simple as a safe place to bed down. All animals choose places to rest that are safe from predators. She's already learned that humans are not a threat while in the suburbs; hunting restrictions make these areas a safe place to reside. As a former hunter, you could tell hunting season was approaching by a sudden increase in the deer population in the no-hunting zones around a city. She has likely also learned that natural predators will not often venture into the city.
I live in Minnesota (way too many deer) and they are in the yard quite often. Mostly in the evening and early morning. That's when they are most active. They have an incredible sense of smell, and can pick up on blossoms, gardens, fruit, or just something out of curiosity. They are quite curious and will sometimes snort at an unfamiliar object. Snorting can be a way of asking, who are you - in a simplified sense. Anyway, I've learned not to approach 'em unless you appear to be really ferocious, lots of noise and arm movements, because you don't know what they're going to do. I've been charged twice.
Maybe you have a special magical front yard
