And if its really that bad, what can I do to help counteract global warming?

Answer:
Well you can start by changing all the light bulbs in your house to energy saving ones
you can turn of the heater at night when no one plans to shower etc
buy a hybrid car
you can change all your appliances to energy saving ones
ill be back with more.....
dont use plastic trash bags
recycle
dont use styrofoam cups or plastic plates or utensils
According to the IPCC report, no matter what we do or don't do, its already going to be around for a milennia due to the massive amount of thermal energy already built up in the oceans. Your best bet is to avoid kneejerk reactions like running out and buying a new car just because it warms the earth a little bit less than your current one does. You might give some careful relective thought as to whether storing glassified nuclear waste inside a mountain is really that tempting a target for terrorists, who will be able to buy it with a credit card from Iran and North Korea any day now.

The best thing you can do as an individual to help global warming is to save yourself some money--maybe a lot of money.

And, no, I'm not kidding. Most of the things you can do will involve some up-front investment (from a few dollars on up)--but save you money in reduced utility and gas bills in the long run.

Here's some examples:
>a while back I spent a few dollars extra for the "energy-efficient" light bulbs. My power bill has dropped about $10 a month as a result--the light bulbs have aleready paid for themselves 3 times over.
>When appliances wear out, make sure the replacements are enrgy-efficient. Even if that costs a bit more, you'll get the money back in energy savings.
>same thing for cars. When it comes tie to trade in, get a car that is fuel-efficient. You can spend more here, obvously. But you can also spend less, if a smaller car with high gas mileage is suitable for your needs
>If available, public transportation is cheaper than driving. And if you are using rail/trolley systems, usually faster.
>Investments in your home--from insulation to window sealing to a solar energy system. These can be small investments--or fairly big ticket items. Either way, they will pretty much pay for themselves over time and add to the value of a home as well.

So--help save the world by saving yourself money. Talk about a win-win deal! :)
Buy and use an older car that doesn't have a catalytic converter. The SO2 that comes out of the exhaust helps reflect sunlight away from the earth once it reaches the upper stratosphere.
