How to be prepared?

There is an insain thunderstorm right outside my house right now. Huge chunks of siding is coming off the apartment building across the street from the wind. the sirens are even going (its just a sever thunderstorm warning for the next half hour.) What should someone have prepared for nasty storms like this? Or when your electricity goes out?

well i live in florida and we have hurricanes and tornados,so we have to prepare every summer.what you need to get for eletricity is a generator should be able to find them at a home depot or if you have a tool store near you they should have them but they will work,and if you live ware they have huricanes board up the windows.if you are by one of these places you need to get tons of water becuase when you have serious hurricanes they lose water,but you need to prepare.also get flash lots and lots of candles. -good luck-.
If the sirens are going off, then I would assume a tornado. Small room like closet, etc in middle of the house. Lower level, basement if possible. Flashlights, NOT candles.
For when electricity goes out, you better have flashlights with good batteries :)
You could buy a gas power generator to supply electricity for the most important things
