Recycling? is it for real? does it work?
Answer:
I'm sure it varies state by state and county by county.
There are certain things that will get recycled more than others. Paper products such as newsprint and cardboard are in high demand. Glass and metal (construction sites quite frequently have their copper wire stolen by crack heads) is also wanted by the companies that recycle them. Even old tires are now being shredded and used on playgrounds and even as lawn mulch.
Old computers are broken down and the silver and gold used in the circuit boards is used again. The other components are also recycled.
If a recycling company does have too much of an item that they cannot sell to a third party for processing than the stuff is thrown away.
Unfortunately, it is all usually trashed. Often it is up to the community to organize recycling programs, and yes they are useful. Besides reducing landfill waste it also drops prices of consumer products by a few cents or more
not where i live. a friend works at the landfill and he told me that the recycle trash truck dumps its load of recycled trash that people have separated. makes no sense to me. your tax dollars at work.
One way around this, and to save the extra money you spend for recycling pickup, is to collect all your recyclables and take them directly to the recycling center. There is one on Pleasant Street in Noblesville, and they take far more than the trash people. All plastics, metals, cardboard and paper. (no Styrofoam though) They also take grass clippings and frequently have free mulch for you to help yourself to. There is also a HazMat (hazardous materials) drop off there, for all your used motor oil, paint, batteries; the list goes on! You can pick up paint etc for free too. A good deal all around - for the small hardship of driving there. I'm sure there are similar centers in each county. The one in Anderson even has free compost bins! Just ask.
it's usually seperated at the recycling plant. and those things that shouldn't have been in there get trashed.
