What are some good, credible sources to find information on how smoking bans effect the environment?
Answer:
Try sites like www.sciencedirect.com for journal articles or Google Scholar to search journal articles.
Also try searching for smoking an its effects on the environment, rather than how the ban effects the environment... as no data will be available for that yet.
Scotland has had a ban in place for some time now, and I believe Dublin also has, so maybe look for information with specific reference to those areas.
To be honest I doubt you will find very much as I don't think it's of primary concern to most climate researchers etc, but you could find out what emissions and waste (such as the butts) comes from cigarettes and what effect these emissions/waste have on the environment in general and then suggest how cigarettes could potentially add to this or how the ban could reduce this.
I had read stuff saying that the risks from 2nd hand smoke were greatly overblown (so to speak) but after doing some research I have found that the risks are real and , more to the point, preventable. So why not?
This EPA site provides a good summary of recent studies.
Enjoy!
A good eventual yardstick could be Turnover at the local cemetery, Undertakers employment stats with possibly the FTSE index of Lyons?
