Are you willing to take the chance that it is climatic change and not global warming?

I am doing a speech on global warming and was wondering how people felt about this. Are you willing to to the chance?

Answer:
What do you mean by "take a chance"? Your question sounds like you don't believe that if one takes action upon "global warming" that there is no risk.

You know, if this were only about decreasing consumption of fuel and resources, I am WAY ahead of the curve. I've been doing it almost all my life. But now, that isn't good enough anymore.

Now comes draconian legislation on behavior. Income redistribution by entities BEYOND the control of our government (as if we didn't already have enough corrupt robbery from our paychecks already!) Carbon sequestering and reduction schemes that can potentially harm the planet.

It's no longer about simply decreasing our "footprint". It's about going toe to toe with global climate in an effort to stop or slow down this climate change regardless of cause. Think about it for a second. If after all this century of negligence of the environment that we created (no argument that we have), it turns out that most of this climate change is part of a natural cycle, and that we went ahead and started tampering with natural cycles in an effort to "normalize" climate, then all of this tampering will have to be greater in magnitude than all of our negligent effort. And that will DEFINITELY be destroying the natural order of the environment. In other words, if we had not been destroying the world before, we most certainly would be afterwards.

Is this the "chance" you want to take?

I believe a patient and voluntary shift towards decreasing our negative impact on the environment is the most sound choice.

Haste makes waste.

My mother used to tell me this as a child. I still believe it.
Yes
but I save energy and recycle and have reusable grocery store bags
Seeing as I don't see it as much of a "chance", then yes. Global warming is a politcal scheme.
Absolutely.
First of all, how do you measure global warming? where do you measure it? In some parts of the world, the tempurature is actualy cooler now than it has been since records have been kept. In Norway, as a glacier retreats, due to "global warming", they are finding of all things, remnants of civilization. These bits of evidence include: Villages, cultivated feilds, earthworks, etc. The current supporters of the "man made global warming" hoax, are being funded by Anti-capitalist nut jobs whose only concern is to destroy the abundence of the U.S. Even if everyone in the world stopped burning fossil fuels, quit using electricity, essentualy reverting back to the stone age, it would have no effect on global temperature.
I strongly suggest you do some research-because if you use that for your topic, people will laugh you off the stage.

No offense, really. But your use of the terms shows you don't evenknow how they are defined. Your audience will see that from the getgo and quit listening--or openly laugh at you.

Here's why:

Definition: global warming is a long-term rise in the Earth's average temperature

Definition. Climate change is a long-term shift in climate/weather patterns on a local, regional, or even global scale.

Relationship: The current global warming is a CAUSE-which is/will REsULT in major climate changes

so--Your "question topic" simply makes no sense--these are not "different alternatives" but parts of a single process. Anyone reading/listening to you will simply conclude you don't have the foggiest idea what you're talking about.
My theory and it is shared with top scientists(or maybe the other way round)is that the sun has more influence over the climate on earth than any other factor. The planet is naturally going through changes, we have had the ice age, the planet froze. Now it is warming up and in time will probably get incredibly hot. This is just part of its cycle.Global warming in the media is more of a selling tool than making us aware of the planets problems. If the governments genuinely cared it would ban the use of oil(it can't because its invested in it)and would limit the flights around the world and a whole ton of other stuff.Global warming is priming us for fear. Then the big corporations can solve this fear by selling us so called helpful solutions like giving to foundations set up to combat global warming if you buy their product. Its all nonsense.
Wake up. This is not a high speed race trying to avoid the CHP radar. In the fifty states, we use more petrol than the rest of the world uses. So it isn't just trips to the store, it is a combined effect of manufacturing, consumption, transportation, and theft of resources. Ignore this! That is my life you are taking a chance with, buster! The lives of our children! The responsibility of generations is on your shoulders.
"Climatic change" is only the new lib/progressive term for their old bugbear 'global warming' (as opposed to their now proven false 'global cooling' flap of the 70's).

Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.
The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.
This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.
Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).
As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).
When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.
It's been happening for millions of years.
Humans did not cause it.
Humans cannot stop it.
You should adress the fact that the cost for not acting goes up all the time. http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200...
I believe Australias current costs are 1% of their entire budget. We all have to pay the price for global warming. The cost will go up, financially and in human lives, the longer we wait. Don't be fooled by oil companies to pay the cost so they can continue to making profit.

Joe u: Historically CO2 has lagged 200 - 1000 years behind the rise in temperature. It has, in the past, acted as a very strong amplifying effect to global warming. The initial cause has been various natural cycles. Now we see a direct correlation between the rise in CO2 and in temperature. As humans release CO2 in to the atmosphere it traps more heat on Earth. This leads to more CO2 being released (as in the past), thus CO2 is presently both a cause and a strong amplifier.
Greenland was, during the MWP, close to or just as warm as today. This was, however, a regional warming, not a global one.

Kirk s.
"First of all, how do you measure global warming?"
It's the average mean temperature of the world.

"In some parts of the world, the tempurature is actualy cooler now than it has been since records have been kept."
Yes, this is why global warming is a global trend, not a reginal one. In some places it will get hotter, in some cooler, but the average trend is that of warming.

"The current supporters of the "man made global warming" hoax, are being funded by Anti-capitalist nut jobs whose only concern is to destroy the abundence of the U.S."
I thought it was done by capitalists cashing in on carbon credits and research fundings?

"Even if everyone in the world stopped burning fossil fuels, quit using electricity, essentualy reverting back to the stone age, it would have no effect on global temperature."
It would have an effect, but please prove me wrong. And the essence of reducing fossil fuel consumption is to Go on, to something new, instead of remaining with the current "obselete" technologies.

A (global) climate change can be both global warming and global cooling.
To say global warming is simply saying that the average temperature is rising.
Manmade (Antrophogenic) global warming is stating that human activities are contributing to global warming together with natural cycles. So I would phrase your question: Are you willing to take the chance that it is a natural climatic change and not MGW (manmade global warming)? :)
First, your question does not make sense. Isn't Global Warming also climatic change? Climate change has become more of a Socialist driven political movement than any concern about the climate. If you don't believe me, then simply visit the Green Party's American website and read their platform and agenda.
I don't buy the doom and gloom attitude. Scientist don't have a great record on a lot of issues. Science is in a constant state of learning. Many theories have been proven wrong. Many studies conflict one another. I don't think any scientist with a conscience can say the THEORY of man-made global warming is an absolute truth.

There is conflict amongst scientist on the causes of global warming. Here are some more positive points of view:
I think what you’re really asking is: Are you willing to take the chance that global warming is natural and not man-made?

The answer to that question is: Yes.

The reason is two-fold.

First, as things stand, the World has far bigger problems than global warming. Just one example: every 15 seconds a child dies as a result of a lack of clean, fresh water. That’s over 2 million children a year, every year, and it’s happening right now as you read this. Global Warming, on the other hand, is not killing anyone at present, and may never do.

So, the question you have to ask yourself is, are you prepared to go and speak to the parents of those children who have died, and tell them that it happened because their children were not as important as fixing global warming – that you *think* *might* *possibly* be a big problem in 50, or even 100 years?

I wouldn’t expect you’d get a very warm response.

Secondly, despite all the propaganda we hear, there is no reason to believe that global warming *will* be a problem even if it does happen – which is far from certain. It was warmer than today during the Medieval Warm Period – some studies say up to 3°C warmer – and there was no global catastrophe. In fact, it was a good time for humanity: we emerged from the Dark Ages and entered a time of great prosperity that, for example, triggered the building of the great cathedrals in Europe. And during the time of the dinosaurs - arguably one of the best times for life in the Earth’s history – it was much warmer than today. So what exactly are the Global Warming Alarmists’ stories of doom and gloom based on? Certainly not the real world.

Given that satellite temperature data shows that there has been no warming since 2002, it’s entirely possible that the world may be about to start cooling again. And what will you say to the bereaved parents mentioned above then? Somehow, I don’t think “oops!” will cover it.

As ever with global warming - don't believe the hype.
I don't think there's any value in taking the risk.

If we change we get a better world, even if there's no truth in the man-made global warming theory. We get quieter, renewable, less poluting, self-reliant energy, and we get to sell things and have better jobs in this country while we do it.

So much of the argument against is economics, but it's economics of borrowing from our kids. We'd rather spend a dollar today that's burned up than spend two dollars that will last for a long time.

The other thing that I think people will start to notice is that anti-environmentalists are now shifting from global warming skepticism to a warmer temperatures will be good theory.
Take the chance? You act as if global warming is a bad thing.

A warmer planet will support more life. Temperate zones will shift north. Precipitation will increase.

A real global tragedy would be global cooling. Advancing glaciers, less arable land and less precipitation would greatly reduce the earth's capacity for life.
Yes and I didn't buy into global cooling either..do you remember that?
Yes I am willing to take that chance. The sky is falling, it hit me on the head. How many Chicken Littles are out there. I am sure the woods are full of them and a few live in 10,000 sf house and ride in private jets.
