How has car ownership increase over past 20 years and how it is likely to increase over same period in the UK?

Answer:
It seems as though advertisers have convinced us in the US that we need more and better cars, not sure about the UK. I think I read something like this in a book by Morgan Spurlock, it was after Super Size Me, but I don't remember the title. I guess car ownership in the UK will depend on the success of advertising in the UK, but they seem to have better public transportation than we in the US do, so car ownership may not have increased that much.
