For all you people who live in Naperville, Illinois, where does milkweed grow?
So, for all you residents of Naperville, if you know where some milkweed is, please give the me the street name (EX: Book Road), site name (EX: Safety Town), building name (EX: Jewel Osco), or any specific place you know of where a lot of milkweed grows well, and healthy for caterpillars to eat, please give me the exact address or something.
Thank you, you'll be helping me help 2 caterpillars that could possible starve.
Answer:
Planters pallete in Winfield carries Butterfly Weed and Swamp Milkweed as does the Growing Place in both Naperville and Aurora. More varieties of Milkweed can also be found at the Natural Garden in St. Charles
I am in Davenport, but you should be able to drive to a pasture in your area and see lots of milkweed. A nursery might carry "butterfly weed," scientific name asclepias, which might work for you. I have seen science catalogs with Monarch habitats to order, and I believe a recipe for the larva is included. Try searching for "raising Monarchs."
You could contact S&S seeds. They deal in California native species, but if they can't help you they should be able to recommend another company.
I included another distributor with what might be your locl milkweed species. Ours here in CA is narrow-leaved milkweed; yours is the common milkweed, I believe. Good luck with the monarchs!
