Answer:
The best we can do as individuals is be more responsible ,in our own neck of the woods
Organise well publicized clean up parties ,talk on the radio
Have citizan meetings
Get the shools involved to plant trees and listen to environmental awareness talks,

If you do any cleaning up leave signs behind saying who cleaned, why and ask people not to start dumping rubbish again ,leave a hole or bins ,in case people come with trash ,

POSITIVE ACTIONS)
Classify trash take out all the organic waste and make compost with it ,the worst you can do is throw it with the trash
70% of contamination is due to organic waste that is mixed in with the garbage .
And it is just as bad in the sewer where it helps to breed rats and in the landfill it poisons the ground

And it is the easiest to take care of
o first of all we have to clasify trash at least keep the organic to one side ,like in a plasic bin with a lid
If you got a few meters of ground ,you only need 1 or 2 square meters in a shallow hole ,in the shade ,that you can wet now and again ,where you dump everything that is organic ,from toilet paper, bones vegetable cuttings ,eggshells,,dead bodies ,excrement ,and cover regularly with leaves to keep humid and to hide any smell
the worms will come and decompose the wastes truning it into beautifull black soil for the garden of flower pots .
If you are in a apartment ,if you have a balcony get a big plastic bin drill some holes in the side and lid ,
Add a few buckets of sand now and again to put over the trash ,you should realt stir or move the stuff at times to airate it and ensure that the decomposition is overall ,keep moist
This rubbish does not get big very fast and the thing works for a long time with out getting full

If you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to slowdown the destructive processes
Reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.
Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.
The protection of existing forrests.
Stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.
Education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.
Education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´population
Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.
More environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks
More dams.regulations and control for public behaviour
Alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

Good for you! There are many things you can do.

1. Start recycling and reusing. Also try to buy things in bulk, with less packaging.

2. Becoming vegetarian or vegan(no meat or dairy products) decreases deforestation, pollution, and all kinds of things.

3. Try to only buy products that are sustainable. Such as recycled products, organic products, and products made from sustainable materials( bamboo, hemp, organic cotton etc.).

4. Start volunteering. Join organizations that share your ideals. This is a great way to make a difference, and meet fun people.

You also might want to look into some websites. This one has a fun quiz that can give you some great ideas on things to do.

Good luck!
One person had some ideas. Here are a few more.

When you cook, save the ends and skins of cucumbers, skins of onions and garlic, carrots and potatos and other things that you might normally throw away. Use these to make soup stock. When you are done with them ...

Start composting. Vegetable matter shouldn't be burried in non-biodegradable bags ... it should go to replenish the earth. A compost pile in a back yard is a great way to replenish the earth. Use the compost to fertilize a garden and ...

grow your own vegetables. Each bit of food that you eat that has travelled many miles to get to your table actually pollutes the environment a little bit more. It used to be that we grew much of what we ate; now much of it travels hundreds of miles to get to our table. Growing your own, or buying from local farmer's markets is a great way to save energy and reduce the amount of pesticides used. You might consider visiting a farmer's market (and choosing organic ones) and ...

using the most efficient method of transportation ever invented; the bicycle. Bicycling is an amazing low impact way to stay healthy and trim. It is also amazingly efficient. A trip of say 2 or three miles might actually be faster on a bicycle, especially when you consider finding a parking place to get where you are going. It causes zero pollution, and reduces your health-care costs by promoting fitness.

Those are just a few.
Some of the answers here are really good- I don't know why you say they didn't help. If you can, try to talk to people and help them understand the importance of helping the environment, that will be a huge help because then they can start making their homes greener. As for yourself, recycle everything you can-paper, cardboard, bottles, cans, etc. All of your plastics have a number on the bottom of the container to help sort it for recycling!
Save the world, kill yourself.
I thought that kely girl had a lot of good ideas!!
go to your library, there are plenty of books on how to save the earth.talk with your parents about recycling.
Help out with meal preparation, sometimes my family orders take-out when no one wants to cook. Offer to help clean-up after the meal, too, that is something my family agues about and wants to use all disposable cups, plates, and silverware. Mostly learn to cook vegetarian and vegan. Also avoid eating out, especially fast food, cuz they seem to be the worst polluters.
I know all aout global warming. There are a SLEW of simple things that you can do to make a BIG difference.

1. Cut your showers short. It may seem like it has nothing to do with anything, but it does.

2. Turn the light off when you leave a room, as much electricity you can conserve the better.

***3. Talk to your parents about buying Philips light bulbs at Walmart. This is probably the most effective thing you can do to help the eniviornment. These light bulbs are sort of weird shaped like a swirl light bulb. Envrionmentalists say that using these light bulbs reduce pollution more than using a hybrid.

If you need anymore recommendations e-mail me.
1. Buy local, organic fruits and veggies.
2. There is all natural cleaning line called Method (available at Target)
3. Recycle, recycle, recycle
4. Plant trees and native plants.
5. Use houseplants indoors
6. Patronize thrift stores for clothes and housewares
7. Donate clothes and housewares
8. Encourage your parents to change to low energy lightbubs, appliances.
9. Turn off lights and unplug appliances when not in use.
10. Volunteer!
