You should start with educating yourself about the environment and try to conserve resources when you can. I was a Boy Scout and learned about camping and the environment.
If you are talking about Global Warming, then you should become educated as to why climate change IS NOT MAN-MADE but rather a natural phenomenon.
In either instance, education followed by action (or inaction) is the answer. Education should be received from scientists, not politicians or muscians or actors.
Help out in the theater department in your school, help with building the prop's for the play's.
I am surprise, you were not able to get a summer job, you could be working at least 4 hours, a day. Perhaps, you can volunteer at your church or help an elderly person out. Your mom, should have stuff for you to do. That is mighty nice of you to want to help out. Have a good evening.
You can volunteer to baby-sit and play with children at your local battered women's shelter, while their mother's take classes and go to group sessions or sometimes Bible studies, or maybe just some R&R at the Local Pizza Hut. If you like kids it would be very rewarding and it is a very safe environment for you. Research it in your area or through your school. I know that schools here give extra credit for participating in these programs or since it is summer now you could devote more time and then go after school for a couple hours . Hope this helps ... If you enjoy helping people, maybe you can become a "Candy Striper" at a local hospital.
Educate yourself, and when you are bored, instead of sitting around watchng Mtv go for a walk. Take a tarsh bag with you and pick up litter. Recycle the cans you pick up for some extra spending money.
