Global Warming?
Answer:
very seldom does the weather man get forecast right for a week , how can they predict whats going to happen in a year or more ...
Thank you! Did you know that we don't have any records of temperatures or weather dating further back than appx. 1860? People will believe anything they hear on TV. Oh yeah, research the Krakatoa volcano, too.
if you would have seen the movie an inconveniant ruth, you would know that if you stick a small ammount of ice , that it would rasie the water level slightly. but if you took alot of ice, the water would rise abnormally. what you dont relaize is that there are thousands of miles of ice undernether the surface. if it all melted, the coastal cities would be screwed.
your ignorant, thats all
well, you are completely right.
humans only releases a tiny tiny amount of CO2, compared to cows farting, paddy fields, and burning trees.
but dont forget we are the ones mass producing the cows for meat and leather, we are th ones mass producing rice, and we burn trees.
oh, and temps wont just rise, everything will ust be mixed up, like sever temps, freezng cold in summer maybe, boiling hot in autumn, really windy in winter, it will be totally unpredictable.
i guess the point is, as you say, sea levels may not rise that much, but we CANNOT BE SURE, and we dont want to put future generations at risk.
it may only sire a small amount, but this may change the tidal currant, affecting the life and habitats or marines animals, etc.
we just cant tell.
i personally think that you are right, humans have not caused the majority of it, although we may be able to help.
i think it is supposed to happen, mush like when the earth warmed up before, like the ice age, etc.
the earth goes in cycles, but lets not make it worse than it has to be.
try to stop global warming, just in case!!
motto-who knows??
-- is most of the ice that's going to melt floating in the ocean? or is it on land, so that all of goes into raising the sea level?
-- there was a very good piece about the drought that's been going on for the last several years, in the southwest. it seems to be getting worse. it seems to be linked to rising temperatures. and it's creating a serious shortage of fresh water. that means food shortage as well.
-- it's surely true that the planet has both warmed, and cooled many times in the past. and when that's happened, many species have died out, being unable to adapt.
-- NEVER before in human history have 7-8 billion people been absolutely dependent on the current environment providing them food. there is no reason to believe that the changing environment will provide more food. there is very good reason to think that less food will be available.
-- it interesting to note that the energy industry pays people to say what you've parroted. did you get paid? or were you duped?
-- it's also interesting that almost all of the world's climate researchers think that there's a problem. but there are quite a number of relatively uninformed folks that think they know better than the people who have studied the problem, gotten their PhDs in the subject, and are absolutely sure that there is a problem. don't you find that interesting also?
-- the recent conference said there was a 90% chance that humans are causing the problem. do you know why it was 90%? it was because China and the US insisted. had it not been for them, it would have been 99%.
-- why do the US and China want to down play the problem? Because both of them have very large coal deposits that they are dependent on for electricity. and CO2 is what comes of burning coal.
-- it's simple economics. your, and your children's future are not worth as much as coal and oil are to the energy industry today.
-- isn't it interesting the number of people that cannot tell the difference between weather, and climate.
-- finally, "go do the research". yeah. go to junkscience. surely you can believe the people who were telling you, 30 years ago, that tobacco was not addicting, and did not cause cancer. yep, the same folks are now telling you that global warming is not happening. surely you can trust them, i mean, such a fine track record.
we do polute alot more than we ever have , the last time it did that was like 1000 years ago who knows the affects of our pollution
U got it right!! Great. Look at the methane. It is not a problem . The environmentalist want u to think they have measured it and know all about it,wrong. Methane is a very light gas and if u were to measure it it would be about 55 miles up. It is not up there either what have they done. Methane is also very flammable so at that altitude the sun's radiation is so intense that it oxidizes the methane . It these 2 gas are not there it is all a scam for people like Gore to make money. Good research.
Your experiment is flawed because you're taking floating ice and melting it. Instead pile up more ice on top of the glass, kind of like a glacier sits on top of the water and then melt it.
Water is smaller in size than ice, but you're misrepresenting things to say that the ice is already in the water.
Most of the world lives close to sea level. Great britain, Italy and Holland would have major cities flooded and wiped off the map, and they'd be the lucky ones.
Indonesia, Bangladesh and the like will not only have their homes destroyed, but they'll suffer through flooding that will kill.
Florida was an island in the U.S. and while we won't lose as much land as other places, it will crush the economy.
I don't know that there's anything we can do to stop global warming, but writing it off as a myth or a minor problem is very short sighted.
1. Science is not a consensus activity
2. _All_ scientists do NOT agree
3. Even the socialistic EU "scientists" are
backpedalling on their GW stance
4. Global warming, like global cooling is part of the
natural climatic cycle.
5. There have been many such cycles in Earth's
history.
6. Earth is presently in the last stages of an ice
age and was considerably warmer for most of its
history.
7. Floating ice occupies the same volume as would the
liquid water that comprises it.
8. Even if the ocean levels rise the alarmist 28
feet, just move away from the beach.
9. Warmer climate means more crop growing area.
10. Water is not going anywhere. Except for what we
have shot into space with rockets, there is the same
amount as there always was.
What's so bad about Global Warming?? If it continus then in the furture it will be REALLY hot. There is a blanket of some types of gases that's not letting the sun ray's or other gases leave the Earth. It can also cause more Hurricans, Tornatos, and VERY harmsh storms no this won't happen till later in the furture, but our kid or grand kids will suffore it more then us. I saw on the TV they show what it will look like in 2050 I DON'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN!! It showed the ground being all brown from it being really hot, I heard them say something about massives of fire or something. There will also be more deadly storms. The ice age the destoryed the dinosours was probley Global Cooling, the Earth got colder and colder until it froze the Earth, that was probley the dinosoures' world end, but the planet was there just frozen. So Global Warming is probley the same thing, the world will get hotter and hotter until it burns up. It's pretty much like the end of the world kinda, but the planet is still there, just all burned up. I also heard in school that if the icy places continus to melt California, Hawaii, Flordia, and places like that will go under water because of the oceans rising and the teaher said that that won't happen in our life time, but it might happen in our grand kids' life time, but yet I also heard that the ocean would get about 2 feet wide or longer or something. It won't ever snow again, yes in the colder areas in might be nicer for a while, but later it will burn up to if it continus to rise forever. By 2100 there is suppose to be much more carbon in the air and I think the Earth's average temp. might go up to about 10 degrees higher I think. I know it doesn't seem like a lot until you live in it. I also saw on some type of website site by 2050 about 400 types of birds can be endangered. I also saw that in 2012 a huge global change will come, but God knows what's gonna happen then.
It sounds like you convinced yourself that we are doing everything all right. If you believe that I feel sorry for you.
...
Nice experiment. You really understand this with 'displacement'. Just to refresh things: If you place ice in water and let it melt it won't change the water level at all. It is already displaced.
What changes water levels is when ice that i landbased melts and fill the oceans.
Great understanding of the 'warming' part also. What happens when altered weather patters, increased droughts, evaporation, and extreme weather is not benificial to mankind. Maybe you have heard of the droughts in northern Africa as the rain failed? It's not as simple as 'movingthe crop fields farther north'.
The next expected ice age will occur in 30.000 years. The current changes differs from previous events. In the past natural cycles has released CO2, and other GHG's, which have acted as strong amplifiers to the other natural causes. This is why the levels of CO2 has lagged by 200 - 1000 years after the initial rise in temperature. The initial rise of temperature has released vast natural sources of GHG's. Presently, CO2 is being released, due to manmade emissions, without an initial temperature rise. CO2 is acting as both a cause and a strong amplifier. The rise in CO2 and temperature are currently in sync. This should show that human activities are largely responble for what is happening now.
Your reference to natural sources, such as trees, being an important factor, similar to the fossil fuels, in GW is incorrect. The GHG's released as trees decay are absorbed by new trees. As with cows, the CO2 released by them reenter the eco-system as new plant matter grows. This is a balance that, over time, does not change the levels of GHG's. Fossil fuel, which is organic matter accumulated over millions of years, DOES effect the climate. This happens when it is released to quickley, and in to large amounts, for the natural systems to absorb. Hope this helps.
If you belong to a certain political party, Global Warming is the most evil thing since the birth of GW Bush our president. They can't really show conclusive proof that Global Warming has been caused by humans. The earth has warmed and cooled since the beginning of time. If we were really the cause of global warming, why is it that a lot of high temp. records were set in the 1930s' and not recently? What will be next, will they be crying about global cooling? It is called an ICE AGE people. They have happened before and I bet one will happen again.
I agree
Nothing we do on Earth will help in any significant way. Mankind contributes a meager 3% to "climate change"
Let's all be thankful the Earth did warm a little. The alternative is far worse… Global Cooling… Mini Ice Age…
Global Warming Alarmists are merely opportunists jumping on the cash cow trying to earn a quick buck by scaring people into believing they are destroying the planet.
The same fanatics were screaming about "Global Cooling" in the 70's!!
We have reached the apex of Earth's recent warming trend and we will gradually start cooling down again within the next 10 years.
I will be sitting here with my smug smile 10 years from know when all the "Global Warming" followers realize how foolish they have been.
Learn a little science, people.
The scientific case is clear for both anthropogenic global warming, and the possibility of very great danger in the future.
The above answers are filled with ignorance, wishful thinking, and errors. The links below give a good scientific review of the actual situation, and many of the misconceptions in the answers above.
Thank you for saying that. You get a star.
