Is huricane impending in Nigeria, what does research reveals about this?
Answer:
Atlantic hurricanes usually form in the tropical lattitudes of the North Atlantic and then they move west toward North America and Central America.
Because of Nigeria's location on the west coast of Africa and at the "armpit" of Africa's hump, I believe it is uncommon for hurricanes to hit Nigeria.
What is common for Nigeria is rainy season (March through June) in which Atlantic moisture is carried by southwesterly "monsoon"-type winds into Nigeria's interior.
However, on May 23 in "This Day" in Lagos, Nigeria, the following was published:
"Presenting a paper titled 'Hurricane Alberto Passed Through Nigeria,' Saidu Muhammed, former director with Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET), who is an aviation consultant, said, "we have now confirmed in our research that Hurricane Alberto passed through Nigeria, traversing 15 states as Category 1 Hurricane, decaying and intensifying along its trajectory before entering the Mid Atlantic to become full blown Category 111 Hurricane. The states are Borno, Taraba, Benue, Plateau, Nassarawa, Abuja (FCT), Kogi, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Ogun, Lagos and Benin Republic."
"Muhammed said after very careful analysis, it was discovered that the system was the same, known as Alberto, which entered Nigeria as a Category 1 Hurricane."
We are approaching the biggest hurrican season ever.
