Going green?

What are some ways you all are trying to go green? I've cut back on all the paper products I buy and I've changed out all of my light bulbs. Any other suggestions?

Answer:
Buy
The Green Book by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas Kostigen.
There are recommendations for how to get green in every aspect of life. It's the most helpful book I've read so far.
if you can afford it buy a better vehicle. get solar panels and be grid free or not tied into the electric company. There are so many things we can do. the less we're depending on coal and petroleum the better.
Changing all my light bulbs to energy saving ones. Recycling more often. Wearing t-shirts that have global warming awareness stuff on them, lol. Taking a bus to places instead of my car everyday. Composting certain garbage. Planting trees. I think that's it.
I'm not trying, at all. I have every wish to protect the world we live in, I do not litter nor pollute, but I think most in the "green" community have lost touch with reality. Gore is a perfect example of extreme. When you produce a alliterative fuel that will work, when you produce a light bulb that will fit a normal socket, and not cost more to make and still have the Mercury, and other toxins, then talk to me about it. Right now all you people are doing is trying to feel better about it, but you are not making a difference of any kind in reality.
Unfortunately it is physically impossible to achieve the reductions in carbon dioxide production world wide to stop Global Warming.

We would need to cut carbon dioxide emissions world wide to less than one tenth of what they are today if we are to have any chance of stopping Global Warming.

To achieve those tyoes of reductions in carbon dioxide out put we would need to shut down all forms of motorized transport world wide.

We would need to shut down all manufacturing, steel making and cement making.

We would ned to stop the heating of all homes, offices and factories.

We would need to stop the heating of all water for washing and bathing.

We would need to stop the generation of all electricity by the use of fossil fuel.

We would need to achieve these cut world wide. There can be no exceptions.

The People' Republic views any attempts to cut its use of fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions to be a serious threat to its economy and prosperity.

The People's Republic of China alone emits enough carbon dioxide to cause Gobal Warming, even if you cut carbon dioxide production to zero in the rest of the world.

Fortunately we can mitigate the effects of Global Warming at a reasonable cost.

Low lying areas can be protected by dike systems similar to those in Holland that are used to hold back the sea.

Hurricanes will become stronger and more frequent. We need to help the poor countries upgrade their disaster preparedness systems.

There will be more droughts. We need to help the affected poor countries with supplementsl water supplies and desalination plants.

We cannot prevent Global Warming, but we can mitigate the effects if we start now.
Buy re-usable shopping bags.

Set your hot water heater to 120 degrees.

Pre-cycle.. I look for products with the least amount of packaging (that I can afford) so I'm not buying the garbage that comes along with the product. The best example of this would be buying bagged cereal instead of buying cereal that comes in a box with a bag inside.

Walk or ride a bike for transportation..if it is safe to do so.

Hook up with your local free-cycle group. Items you don't use can be given away instead of going in a landfill...and someone may have something you need as well!
