What is the best way to start a compost pile without bothering our neighbors?

We live in town and our dogs tend to like playing in the piles.

Answer:
Don't use an exposed pile. Enclose it in something that will keep the dogs out. Something reasonably attractive will help your neighbors acceptance. You can make your own "compost bin" or purchase one.

Consider this method it is easier, less smelly (although compost shouldn't really smell and can be done indoors. Great for beginners
Put the compost in your OWN yard.
Get a compost bin or put an enclosure around it to keep the dogs out. We planted flowers around ours. You can also compost by burying in the flower beds if you are talking about kitchen waste like potato peels, etc.
Find someone, like a farm who buys chemicals in large plastic barrels, They'll usually give them to you for free, so they don't have to pay for disposal. cut the top of it off. Use them for composting.
In your yard! and remeber always bury it! It can serve as fertilizer! If it stinks, concot a sweet smelling colongne using natural stuff and put some of it on the place of the compost pit.
