Green household cleaners?
Answer:
All cleaning solutions I know of, harm the environment to some extent. So whatever you use, it's always good to use as little as possible.
Avoid "germ-killing" products. They contain chemicals that go far beyond what they're needed for, and therefore harm nature.
Avoid cleaning products containing chlorine. This is a harmful substance.
Avoid cleaning products with unnecessary additives such as perfume and colour.
Using microfibre cloths is also a good idea, as it in many cases makes any soap redundant. Avoiding fabric softeners when washing microfibre cloths keeps them in the most effective conditions.
Now this may sound a bit strange, but household vinegar works well for cleaning kitchen and bathroom surfaces. I dilute it about 50/50 with water, and it actually doesn't leave a vinegar smell. But I also know of people who add essential oils to the vinegar solution to give a slight fragrance.
Vinegar has anti-bacterial and calc-dissolving properties, which I guess is why it works so well.
And when buying hoovers, make sure it's energy efficient.
There are several brands with ranges of eco friendly cleaning agents. The one I've tried is relatively expensive, but works well in my experience. An internet search is likely to help you locate your nearest supplier :)
Vinegar is a multi- purpose "miracle cleaner"
One container will take care of laundry, kitchen cleaning, even bugs and weeds.
Also Baking Soda the most versatile product for your home, your family and your body, it’s so easy to use!
Deodorizing Drains
What goes down sometimes comes back up. To deodorize your sink and tub drains, and keep lingering odors from resurfacing, pour Baking Soda down the drain (1/2 cup) while running warm tap water. Baking Soda will neutralize both acid and basic odors for a fresh drain.
Surface-Safe Cleaning
Glub in the tub? For safe, effective cleaning of bathroom tubs, tile and sinks - even shiny fiberglass and glossy tiles- sprinkle Baking Soda lightly on a clean damp sponge and scrub as usual. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. Afterwards, take a nice relaxing bath without the worry of harsh chemicals.
Cleaning Bathroom Floors
Leave it up to Baking Soda to speed things up in the bathroom. Baking Soda helps remove the dirt and grime from a bathroom tile or no-wax floor quickly and easily. Mix 1/2 cup Baking Soda in a bucket of warm water, mop and rinse clean for a sparkling floor.
Chlorine Bleach Booster
For thumbs up whites with less harsh chemicals that tend to damage clothes add ½ cup of Baking Soda with a ½ cup of bleach (instead of the usual 1 cup of bleach). Do you smell a cover up? We do! Adding ½ cup of Baking Soda instead of using a full cup of bleach will reduce smelly chemical odors too!
Both are non-toxic and won't harm the environment. Check out the links below for more detailed info and how to use them.
Here U go... That should keep U busy for awhile & U wont have to clean house.

As the previous poster stated, baking soda and vinegar are common items that can be used as cleaners for many types of applications. I found a more extensive list for you which includes everything from environmentally safe shoe polish to drain cleaner to silver polish.

Unfortunately, I don't know of too many commercial products, but the site linked above listed the following brands which can be found in natural/organic grocery stores - Ecover, Earth's Best, Seventh Generation, Earthrite, Earth Friendly, Bio Kleen, Life Tree, and Dr. Bronner's.
At your local natural/organic market there will be many biodegradable household products. If you don't have one close by, you could purchase some online. I currently use ECOVER bathroom and surface cleaner, which works really well and smells nice too. For laundry, ecover has chemical-free detergents and spot removers. Seventh Generation is also another great natural housecleaning brand. You are making a great decision by switching to eco-friendly products.
The world authority on sewerage treatment requires all household cleaners be biodegradable. Although there are some cleaners not suitable for septic tanks because of the way septic tanks work. Septic tanks are the most basic way of treating sewerage so if you are really concerned , read the info on the container of cleaner and if it says "Not suitable for septic tanks" then use some other cleaner even if you are connected to the town's sewerage system.
When I first started to clean green, my supplies consisted of a bucket, a spray bottle, a bottle of Dr. Bronner's castile soap, a two-pound box of baking soda, and a bottle of vinegar. That's a good, inexpensive "starter kit."
The book I recommend below has lots of ideas on how to combine those basic ingredients...and more!
These are a couple of my favorite eco-friendly recipes:
Club Clean glass cleaner: Fill a spray bottle with club soda. Spray and wipe.
Sleepy Head toilet bowl cleaner: 1/2 cup borax sprinkled into the bowl. Leave overnight, then scour in the morning with a toilet brush.
Vinegar is a great one, if you prefer something that smells better Safeway has many products available and most
co-op's and similar grocery store have many different options to choose from. Just read the label before buying and make sure it is approved to use as a "green" product.
As previous posters have mentioned, Vinegar and Baking Soda are amazingly multipurpose, safe and rather cheap items to use around the house...but I can't stand the smell of vinegar.
Product lines that I use are Method and Seventh Generation

Also by going eco-friendly, you are improving the air quality around you by reducing the amount of toxic chemicals in those solutions and in turn, improving your own general health.
