Advance treatment for treated wastewater with TDS to be use in cooling tower?
Answer:
There are several pieces of information very important to answering this question.
1) What is the pH/lanlier index/corrosivity of this wastewater?
2) Are there any solids present in this wastewater?
3) What type of piping is in this cooling tower? PVC? Iron? Stainless Steel?
4) Do a corrosion study with different types of piping/cooling ratiators to determine weather the wastewater is corroding, depositing or neither.
If this wastewater is simply to be used in a heat-exchange type situation and then discharged legally to the sewer, DO NOT waste your money on advanced treatment. Put the money into upgrading/installing a cooling tower that can handle the temperatures/temperature differentials/waste water charataristics you have. Advance treatment is expensive to install and will be a constant headache and expense to maintain.
Treating wastewater with micro/nano filtration is energy, resouce, and maintenance intensive...especially for water used in a cooling tower that will be dumped to the city sewer.
The simplest method will be ultra or nanofiltration, depending on the type of TDS. You may need to add coagulation/flocculation in a prestep.
