What does Alpaca meat taste like?

I think that Alpaca meat probably tastes a lot like venison or goat. They're about the same size, and they eat shrubbery and stuff, and walk around a lot. They wouldn't taste anything like chicken.
Actually that someone is true.. It does taste a bit like chicken.
Alpacas arent bred for meat, so its probably really tough and not very flavorful. I think maybe if they bred certain Alpacas to other special ones and raised them as a not so rugged animal, then they would be alot tastier and more tender. I have never tried it, so dont take my word for it.
apparently it is quite a lean meat with a taste described as similar to sweet lamb.

I had alpaca meat on a trip to Peru a few years ago.
It was sort of goat-like in taste and texture, but it wasn't exactly lilke anything I had had before. Slightly gamey, but not overpowering like elk. I enjoyed it, although the poor beastie probably didn't.
Actually, alpacas are bread for their wool, but people in the Andes do eat alpaca meat. I have tried it and it is very tasty. Must be because of the natural grass they eat. It is a very healthy meat, because the animal is in constant movement. This makes the meat is very lean and therefore low in cholesterol.
