Why do so many people call global warming a scam?
Answer:
So, Bob thinks Gore, Gingrich, and Robertson are trained scientists?
If Gore and the Hollywood crowd are so dedicated to the prevention global warming, why is it that WE need to stop using fossil fuels but THEY can keep their private jets and Hummers? Al Gore is making money from companies that promote investment in "Green Companies" and trade in carbon credits.
The theory is that climate scientist ensure job safety by creating this hoax of global warming. If they're studying something so incredibly important, they're ensured of funding. The theory is also that environmental whackos start or invest in carbon credit companies to sucker people out of money. On top of that, conservatives think that liberals get a high from enacting new taxes, and a carbon tax is a possible consequence of global warming.
It's an incrediby stupid theory, but there you have it.
Many skeptics are conservatives who carry their ideology to an extreme. If liberals, environmentalists, or, worst, Al Gore say something it simply must be wrong, no matter how many scientists are also saying it.
They should maybe listen to these guys:
"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"
"Pat Robertson (very conservative Christian leader) 'It is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air. We really need to do something on fossil fuels.”
Then there are some people who find a conspiracy, often by the government, in everything.
Basically just politics run amuck.
so people can receive funding and grants
Religious fanatics all have their own doomsday stories. And the real version, global warming, isn't in any of their old books. Denial of reality is a religious tradition.
How do you think Al Gore and the Kennedy twit make their livings? The fly air polluting jets all over the country and ride in gas guzzling limos, giving these silly speeches and concerts, and make lots of money doing it. The same way Jesse Jackson has ridden the race thing for so long without being gainfully employed.
Global warming is real. But it is a normal and natural cycle of the earth and these chicken littles are not going to change nature. Global cooling is coming too. And that will be much more serious for man kind. Think about all the farmland that will be to cool to grow food. And all the energy it will take for everyone to keep warm and sheltered.
Well DuPont and some other companies would get these "credits" for things they have done in the past if a cap-and trade program was created. They could then sell those credits for money. Meanwhile nothing tangible would actually occur to reduce CO2.
BP and GE have invested heavily in wind and solar power which is currently reducing their PROFITS. If carbon were to be taxed, their investments would become enourmously profitable while Exxon would pay massive taxes. This might make you feel better but won't significantly change CO2 production.
Other examples exist, all of which make current CO2 emitters more profitable and any new companies--who would be without a carbon credit--have to buy their way into the market.
Once businesses started lining up behind the global warming issue, you have to ask yourself how they'd benefit. Look and you will see the answer. Toyota and hybrid producing automakers benefit from the government's income tax deductions, allowing them to sell more expensive cars and make more profit. Do you really think the supposed 2mpg increase of a Ford Escape hybrid does anything for global warming? But the buyer got a discount and it cost more than the regular model--more money for Ford.
The current energy bill spends 1.5 BILLION dollars on researching putting CO2 in the ground. Look it up, I read the bill.
The universal equation of state funded science is…
No Problem = No Funding
Thus, if you can persuade the government that there’s a big problem somewhere, then you’ll secure yourself lots and lots of funding.
It could be argued, therefore, that all scientists are biased. As long as they can convince everyone that AGW is a crisis, they’ll get paid. The moment they prove conclusively that AGW is not a problem, they’re instantly out of a job.
Be honest, what would you do?
For this reason I tend to have a lot more trust is the views of people who genuinely have no financial stake in the issue. This is why my sources include Michael Crichton: a scientist who now earns his money from writing books. And Christopher Monckton: a government advisor on science issues who runs his own publishing company. Neither of these people gains anything from denying AGW; no oil companies are paying them. They’re just intelligent people, who have looked at the actual science (all of it – not just the bits that the IPCC quote, for example) and they conclude that it’s probably a scam.
As ever with global warming - don't believe the hype.
It's just another way of creating another tax on the masses. Some idiot is going to calculate how much CO2 each country is emitting and how many trees they have that might be able to use up that CO2 and if there is any CO2 left over it will cost them. If they find that there's more trees than they need they can sell their carbon credits to some other country.
That's the way I see it and as far as I'm concerned it's a scam. When really, the clean air acts could be tweaked just as they did over exhaust emissions.
You can bet your boots America, China and India will be paying heaps and that's why Bush doesn't want a bar of it. It will be the small countries that will pay through the nose.
Bush has already said that it's not economical for America to go down that path but the rest of the world had better tow the line.
To many people only look at everything in terms of politics. Since Al gore is the one supporting the CO2 theory, all the far right automatically say it's wrong. On the other side, all the far left believe anything Al Gore says, and hate anyone that even questions the valid theory.
We engineers and scientists understand the complexities of this phenomena and can usually discuss it and even question the data/calculations without using "Scam", or other such terms.
We all (Most of us by now) will agree that global warming is taking place. It has been warming and cooling throughout history. Most of my friends and I agree that CO2 from human activities can logically have an affect on the rate of change and even the peak in this cycle. The real question is just how much? Many good scientists are working on this and I am sure we will all understand it better in the future.
For now, we should go ahead and reduce our use of foreign oil if only for our country's security, and do all we can to reduce power consumption. Reducing any pollution is always good for our land as long as we are reasonable. We have little to lose, and if the CO2 theory is correct, we are already headed in the right direction. WIN / WIN Situation.
Because they don't know what Global Warming is I don't think they watch the news.
Because the Oil, Gas & electric companies can SCAM you out of more & more money. They say they want you to save on energy, But when you do they claim they are not making any money and raise their rates.
This may take awhile, but read these two articles:

Oil companies won't have to pay to reduce emissions; selling you gas does NOT create emissions - we burn it, so we'll pay. They'll charge you at the pump and pass-through the tax to the government. In fact, they will make money on the deal, because they collect interest on the money for the short time that they hold onto it before cutting the government their share. It may seem like a little bit of money until you realize just how much gas is purchased every day.
Where oil loses money is in reduced sales, but then again, not really. No one else in this country has the infrastucture to deliver alternative fuels - they will have an advantage in being able to retrofit existing stations with the least cost. These guys aren't stupid - they'll perservere.
