Globalized world...global efforts towards global warming?
I am a first year college student so the sterotype may preceed m y reputation i apologise...anyhow i know that there are efforts on a statewide regionwide, and even national collaboration between scientist/and organizations that are creating factual evidence to support the theory of global warming(and allowing evidence to go public), and predict its impact upon the united states, and its several regions. As the warming of the earth will inevitablye affect the entire world, (and we realize that global warming cannot be stopped just by an effort on behalf of the US) why hasnt there been an international/global effort towards making changes. or at least organizing a group of some form, towards raising awareness on a global level? if there is a community of economically equipt persons and i missed the conjoined effort, let me know
also what are your thoughts?
Answer:
First off...there is no 'real' science proving global warming.
Most of the science is based on invalid/inaccurate data and the whole gw issue is political not factual.
The models used are invalid and the 'real' science has proven it already ...and also has shown that in fact some of the actually result will have major increases in flora & green.
Btw, any computer model used that would supposedly show global warming should in be able to demostrate past issues of global warming... yet none of them are capable of doing that.
There was. It's called the Kyoto Protocol and the US is one of the only industrialized nations, along with Australia, who failed to ratify it. Our main objections were that 1) it would devastate the economy and 2) it was unfair because developing nations were not required to cut their emissions.
It turns out that the US generates 25% or more of the world's carbon emissions, so even if it was just us who cut back it would make a difference.
The first fear is totally unfounded, since currently the fastest growing sector of venture capital investment is in so-called "green technology" or CleanTech. This demonstrates that as energy prices rise and we begin to attach a price to environmental damage, the private sector begins to see a profit opportunity and investors pile in. In other words, defending the environment has the potential to spur economic growth.
The second fear made more sense, since China and India will soon both surpass the US as the largest polluters on Earth (if they haven't already). However, China is also emerging as a leader in cleantech research, as evidenced by the explosion in initial stock offerings of Chinese solar manufacturers that we have seen in 2006. So the more we whine about our economy, the more we look like idiots as one of the fastest growing economies on earth is also trying to fight carbon emissions through technology. Admitedly, the Chinese are also building new coal plants at an awe-inspiring rate.
American reluctance to fight global warming, IMHO, can be largely attributed to a lack of education on the part of American citizens. This situation is exacerbated by efforts on the part of fossil fuel manufacturers and the politicians who get money from them to convince us that there's really nothing wrong with burning coal and oil to get energy and that renewable technologies such as wind and solar are too expensive and unreliable. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the only companies that will be harmed in a fight against carbon emissions will be oil, coal, electricity and car companies who fail to adapt to changing conditions. A good example is GM, which is getting kicked all over the map by Honda and Toyota for one simple reason: they failed to adapt to changing market conditions and kept doing the same old thing.
There has been global action attempted, most notably the Kyoto Accords, which were not signe onto by the U.S.
China has already said emphatically they will not do anything and will continue to build massive coal-burning power plants. India is pretty much in the same boat.
Can you blame them, they are still trying to pull a vast majority of their population to the levels bemoaned by the US "poor" people.
To "New Dog Owner": The Kyoto Accord was signed by Clinton, you can look it up. It was never ratified by the Senate. But keep blaming Bush for that.
get real read what America is doing to make Global warming worse ,to speed it up ,to force natural disasters upon us that will kill so many people .

this cannot be achieved with concern for the crowds
on the contrary.
It is sinister how many students come out with positive thoughts about globalisation as if they have been fed these attitudes.
The things that every individual does affects every person on earth. That is what globalists use as their main argument and there is some truth to it. The only problem is this. How long before someone like Vladimir Putin or Hugo Chavez or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad takes control. Who will you turn to for help?
I just read about this website on the Wall Street Journal: Carbon Diet Plan. It is an application that can put us on a 'carbon diet'. As an individual and friends, we can make an impact on global warming 1 lb at a time.
