Hey does anyone know what to feed ducks?
Answer:
You might not believe it, but try Purina. From the website listed below:
Purina Duck Chow
Feed your ducks with rations formlated for them.
There are 3 duck chows: Starter (20% protein), Grower (16%) and Breeder (17%).
There is no maintenance feed. The Purina spokesperson in Missouri suggests just keeping them on grower, except during breeding season.
Duck chow is apparently not available in all parts of the country, at least not all 3 types. The spokesperson said to please call them in Missouri and tell them where you live. They will then tell you who your Purina dealers are and what they can and cannot get. If anyone is having trouble getting any Purina product from any Purina dealer, they will talk to the dealer, if the dealer is able to get the product, but simply doesn't want to. The phone number in Missouri is: 1-800-227-8941.
You can also e-mail them at their web site: Purina-Mills That site will soon be getting a poultry link, according to the spokesperson.
Bread crumbs. They love bread crumbs.
They like crackers too. Of course when I tried to feed it a cracker when I was 4, the duck bit my hand.
also grain like dry corn
I would say go to your local feed store and ask, Or look in the yellow pages under vets, to find a nutritious food, because bread all the time will starve them.
Ducks are incredibly greedy. Particularly when they are ducklings. They will eat until their crop is so full they can't walk and fall over onto the bloated crop if you let them. Our ducks ate absolutely anything you put anywhere near them, even if they were not meant to. They can make a lot of mess though. So don't encourage them into the house.
Buy chicken scratch at the feed store. My dad feeds ducks all the time. Bread is not good for them to eat on a regular basis.
