Could someone please explain why scientists come to two completely different views on global warming
WE SHOULD NOT BE TAUGHT THINGS AS FACT WHEN IT IS CLEARLY GUESS WORK!!!
Answer:
The explanation is simple. Science is a process of creating and then testing theories. Sometimes the theories are wrong, sometimes they are proven correct. Science has proven through measurements that the Earth is getting warmer. The absolute cause is still up in the air. That being said, the National Geographic article was NOT a scientific article. It was a very short article based on an observation and did not even try to provide any proof that the increase in the temperature of the Earth. It just reported a correlation between an increase in the Earth's temperature and that of Mars.
Please try to look at such articles more critically next time.
Never mind scientists, it's the middle of July and I'm bloody freezing. Global Warming what global Warming. Try telling a 4 year old that she might not get her paddling pool out this year. I've been running my central heating straight through till now. I usually can switch it off in May. Tell Al Gore he's a diddy.
In my opinion man made global warming is b.s. The earth has been in cooling,(Ice ages) warming (when the dinosaurs roamed) ,and many times over and over.(its been proven in ice core samples from the artic, or antartic Im not sure which) A simple volcanic eruption could generate more gases than man could create in 50yrs.
Also co2 is plant food, trees would grow larger and stronger, so whats wrong with co2, extra growth would absorb extra co2.(they want you to buy land at tax payers expence, to plant more trees to compensate for more co2)Whats the sense , if existing plant life just grows larger? (so much for that fantasy about carbon offsets), and another way they can tax your existence)
Also a little warming wouldn't be bad on fuel heating costs, and crop production.
As far as why, You get two differant opinions?
One is logical, and one is a Wack job! Guess which is which?
Your first link has a guy who is proposing theories (ie several of them) that go against our basic understanding of physics and chemistry. He is a global warming denier and your source lists many mainstream scientists disagreeing with what he says. It's easily disprovable too - if both mars and earth are heating up because of solar radiation increasing then every other planet/moon/asteroid in the solar system should also be heating up proportionate to it's distance from the sun. We should also be able to measure increased solar radiation of a sufficient level to account for climate change on earth. Neither of these things has happened, therefore the non-mainstream scientist is wrong.
don't want to look at your links. i personally think we have nothing to worry about. we are just coming out of the ice-age. its a natural progression, it was going to happen, and it just so happens its happening in our era!

Read this. Take it home with you. Chew it. It's delicious.
I agree with Mary B. We are still in the "Many Theories" stage of really understanding this phenomena. We are pretty sure the globe is warming and has been for hundreds of years from analysis of ice cores and recent historical measurements. There are many good scientists studying this and developing more theories. They have the right to question any and all theories and methods. That is science. It is not a political problem.
There are not "two sides" to the global warming issue--and no legitimate scientist says otherwise.
The "debate" you are trying to convince people of does not exist. What the articles you refer to is the observation--well known among anyone who actuallyknows anything about global warming, even from a layperson's standpoint, is that there is a small part of the global warming that isdue to natural causes. But , IF you present what these scientists actually said--and do so truthfully, it is this: global warming is a proven fact. So is the fact that most--almost all--of the warming is due to human activity.
But--it really doessn't matter. No one is listening to dishonest propaganda like this anymore. I only bother to answer these attempts at misinforming people for the sake of young people who may be misled by the lies.
BINGO!
"WE SHOULD NOT BE TAUGHT THINGS AS FACT WHEN IT IS CLEARLY GUESS WORK!!!"
Someone gets it. Take a look, though, at who is teaching. The media, Al Gore, and the IPCC are not scientists. I'm sure that as you do more digging, you're going to find even more questions, such as the possibility that the Greenhouse effect is not as cut and dry as claimed to be.
Ask anyone that you want - how much heat does the Greenhouse effect retain? They can give you a range of 20-30 degrees C. When you have 10 degrees of slop, why should anyone get excited with 0.4 degrees. As we are still increasing temps out of the Little Ice Age, how does anyone know what temperature we are supposed to be at?
If the LIA was created by a melting of the Arctic ice cap and shut down of the ocean conveyor, then what caused THAT warming?
Science rarely rests on its laurels. There will ALWAYS be questions.
Heck yeah.
Some scientists just don't get all the facts, or the other side of the story, they leave a bunch of stuff out.
Here...check out this website that's run by some really good scientists from Harvard-Smithsonian and professors from other prestigious institutes all over North America, www.friendsofscience.org. They really put up convincing and (reluctantly) UN Climate Report backed data that shows that Global Warming is natural and normal. They totally convince me that the cause of this natural temperature flucuation is the most simple source, the sun. For instance, for centuries, the sun has always intensified and weakened its radiation upon the earth, thus causing temperatures to change from century to century. During the 1400's, the Medieval Warming period took place, when temperatures were 3-4 degrees warmer than they are today! And after that during the 1700-1800's, we went through a little known Little Ice Age, when the temperatures dropped 1-2 degrees. Right now, we're only coming out of an ice age, so no wonder our temperatures are higher than they were 100-200 years ago. Which explains why they're still completely normal. And besides, in the sixties, when industry was reaching a peak, and carbon emissions were at an all time high, the temperature actually dropped! Scientists actually thought that we were going to go through another ice age. Yet, during the same time, the sun's rays weakened, thus proving that it was in direct correlation to the temperatures here on earth. So, to conclude, global warming isn't man-made, it's completely natural, caused by the sun.
