Global Warming?
What are your thoughts on global warming?
Explain why do you think it's fake and isn't real?
or
Explain why do you think it is real?
** I know I am going to get scolded big time by alot of people on here...so if you are just going to send hate answers or hate mail, I will not answer back..so you are wasting time**
Answer:
Only about 20% of Americans think global warming isn't happening. Those are the Americans most out of touch with reality.
There's another relatively small percentage of people who think that humans aren't causing global warming. Most of them are uninformed or misinformed on the issue, and only believe this is the case because they want it to be true, so they accept the misinformation without question.
My thought is that the current global warming is primarily caused by humans, as illustrated in this climate model plot:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/image:clima...
The evidence that humans are the primary cause is overwhelming, and most climate science experts agree on this.
If we take no action, in 20 years we'll be starting to see some of the worst effects take hold. Droughts, heat waves, water shortages, coral reefs dying, etc. etc.
i think that global warmins TRULY is a problem, as is evident by the extreme heat (espicalyl southern california) is experiencing.. people ignore it because they would rather be ignorant. also, this issue has not really been pressed upon us by our government. to the best of my knowledge, the bush administration has undone countless years of environment works and denied or destroyed environmental laws.in my opinion, these two issues combined result in the majority of pure ignorance of society. it is shame that, rather than look for ways to counteract and "decrease our daily impact" we continue to buy and create gas guzzlers such as hummers, suburbans, & other SUVs. it is my firm belief that between global warming, poor leadership, war & hate, the human race will have killed itself off before we reach our greatest productivity level. they say the sun will explode. however,at the rate we are progressing and polluting, we will kill ourselves before we reach that point. it is a shame that god put us on this green earth and we polluted it rather than appreciated it.
I've come to the realization that people who believe in manmade global warming are not going to be changed. So I'm at the point now where I just would say to those people "go ahead and change the world. Ride your bikes to work, do everything you can to be heroes and save the earth. Just DON'T preach to me and make me change my ways. I don't need anyone telling me how to live my life." Nobody likes to be told what to do. Stop trying to shove it down everyone's throat. Do what you can, wonderful. But I ain't changing.
I agree with you completely. Even if global warming isn't caused by humans, (which i don't think is the case) it certainly can't do any harm for people to quit watching TV 24 hours a day, bike instead of drive, and pollute less in general. It actually helps people's respiratory systems if there is less pollution in the air, but you can probably even find people that would say THAT is a lie.
I figure its just like when a person decides to over-eat and become obese even though they know its unhealthy,
Or like a person who decides to take drugs even though they know that will have bad effects on them in the long run
Also people who have sex without protection just for the pleasure even though they know about the consequences
And so on and so forth...its the same thing with global warming, b/c even though the majority knows the outcomes of it they still want their luxuries simply due to the fact that the proofs of it are nothing that is TRUELY threatening people enough to act.
my position on this subject is that it has been misrepresented as a scare tactic " global warming" The problem is pollution. It has been and will continue to be whatever the name may be. To believe that we as humans can change the climate...come on. No human on earth created Katrina or any other weather pattern. Humans cannot control rain or they would have. Humans cannot control the temperature of the earth. Call the issue pollution and the movement WILL have more support.
i would find it surprising if you actually knew what the claim of Global Warming is.. i havnt found 1 person that actually knows what the claim is... you people are so ignorant you dont even research the claim... let along the opposing view. everytime i hear someone profess to me about the Dangers of Global warming... they immediately assert that its the pollution of cars and factories... its the carbon monoxide in the air, its this its that... NEWS FLASH...
THE CLAIM IS:
MAN IN LAST LAST 100 YEARS HAS DONE DETRAMENTAL DAMAGE TO THE PLANET WITH INDUSTRIALIZATION AND ITS CARS FOSSIL FUELS ETC... BY ECCSESIVE RELEASE OF CO2 EMISSIONS INTO THE ATMOSPHERE AMPLIFYING THE "GREENHOUSE AFFECT" TO THE POINT OF IMMINENT DOOM.
okay... thats the claim. CO2... not Carbon monoxide... not smog. not pullution of CFCs... but Carbon Dioxide... an essensial element to life on earth... Plants need it to live... we exhale it as we breath. so..
even though i think the claim of global warming is WRONG... id rather tell you what the claim is.. then debate whether its wrong or not, since most people dnt even know what there talking about... now.. you should research both sides... not rely on your teachers or the media to tell you what it is... this is NOT nazi Germany. this is NOT communist Russia... take advantage of your freedom of information and do your own research...
Big hoax, and political tool. Okay, let me address a few things you questioned. Riding the bike to the store vs. taking a car. Well, most people don't live close enough to the store to consider riding a bike, and most places (cities/towns) do not provide sidewalks for such to happen, and there's a high risk of getting hit by someone that is driving a car.
The hole in the o-zone layer. Just because we discovered it does not mean we made it. Did the first man that discovered apples were eatiable make them? No. Do a little experiment. Take a balloon and fill it up with air, keep adding air too it and see what happens. It pops. Now, take a piece of tape and puncture a small hole into another balloon and keep adding air to it. Think of the o-zone hole like that. If the earth needs to get rid of more gas, the hole expands, if not, it contracts. Do some research and you'll find over the years the hole as shunk and increased, it's a natural cycle.
Polar Ice Caps melting. Good. It will keep the sea cool and the overall temp of the earth down. Anyone ever stop to think this could be natural too. The No. 1 enemy in global warming, that you never hear about, is not Man-it's the Sun. The sun's temp. is not constant, and thus, the amount of heat the planets receive from it varies with the amount of heat it generates. If the ice caps did not melt, it would kill far more aquatic life than any oil spill in history.
As far as land being swallowed by water? What grade are you in? Once something becomes part of the earth, it stays part of the earth forever. It may change forms (i.e. gas, solid, liquid) but none the less, it's here for good. No one ever talks about the rain that will occur due to global warming and polar ice caps melting. Think about this, the gardens of babylon were once lush and beautiful, but now it's a desert. Imagine how much farm production could come from the Sahara Desert, which is larger than all of the United States, if it got the right amount of anunal rain fall. If it's going to get that damn hot, there is going to be a lot of evaporation, ie lots of rain.
If you read nothing of from this, pay attention here. The earth has survived with out our help for millions (or even billions) of years. Plants have survived attacks from large plant eating dinosaurs and ice ages, as well as swarms of bugs that can wipe out fields as fast as fire. Life will survive on earth, and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Less than 15% of the earth is developed and populated by people, and you can fit the entire WORLD population within the state of Rhode Island and still have room for about 20 Noah's Arks worth of animals.
What Global Warming?
The temperature, which has been rising steadily since the end of the "Little Ice Age" 150 years ago, has been flat since 1998.
Those who claim CO2 is a primary climate driver have no leg to stand on anymore, as we've seen from ice-core research that CO2 historically follows temperature by 800 years - it does not lead.
Those who claim catastrophes are on the way rely on unreliable models of climate, with no predictive capability whatsoever.
The Southern Hemisphere has shown no recent warming whatsoever.
People blame everything on Global Warming - or "Climate Change" as it has become known for lack of evidence.
People dismiss the SUN, as if every other planet in the Solar System experiencing warming was isolated from the Earth and had nothing in common with it.
There is no "consensus" that warming is even bad. Extended growing seasons, more arable land, milder winters, all may very well offset any of the other "bad" stuff everyone talks about.
BTW - CO2 is VERY good for life. Plants THRIVE in a CO2 rich environment!
The hole in the ozone is supposedly from CFC'c not global warming. Twenty years from now the enviro whacko's will be on a new crusade. Remember 20 years ago and how all the lakes were dying because of acid rain. They are still alive. CO2 is evidence of industrial progress and change and the one thing environmentalists and other assorted types who like to tell everyone else what to do is hate to change.
I don't understand why people don't believe either. I just think that whether global warming is happening or not it is a good idea to create changes in our livestyles to make the earth cleaner and healthier.
