Which is more green, a wood paint brush because its not plastic or a plastic one because its not from a tree?
Answer:
100% recycled post consumer waste plastic paint brush
Wood. It may come from a tree, but there are plenty of trees. Plastic uses more chemicals.
And REUSE the brush. Don't just use it once and throw it away.
A tree is a renewable resource but plastic is made from petroleum which is a fixed resource. Hence the wooden paint brush is greener.
On the other hand if you used a weed like hemp mixed with a fibrous resin for the paint brush handle it would be even greener.
Paper or plastic, no good answer.
Better yet - If a paintbrush falls in the forest and there's nobody around, does it make a noise?
I'd say the wooden as long as its not from virgin trees. But a better choice is bamboo handle or recycled wood.
it's not necessarily the material, but how it's processed. if the wood from the tree is taken from a sustainable forest or if the factory that makes the plastic brushes is environmentally friendly...there are a million things that go into the products that we use, it takes a lot of research to figure out what is best. that's why i love magazines like ecological homes which details the best things to have in your house and be environmentally friendly. best wishes~
