How is everyone getting on with freecycle?

When it works it seems to be fab, but I've had alot of timewasters too....how is everyone else getting on?

Answer:
I've given lots away but struggle to find stuff I want, I thought I had the other day but went to look and it's wasn't at all what I want. Does that make me a time waster? oh no!
I've got rid of quite a lot of stuff to people on Freecycle, it is annoying to accept an offer and then the person never appears to collect it though. Also others who even though you are giving them a decent bit of kit free of charge insist on you having to go out of your way to deliver it as well!
On the whole it's a good system but the moderators and admins need to keep a tight grip on members and instantly ban those who muck people about when collecting items.
I love freecycle it has helped me out a lot. That said I am not a timewaster and have only freecyled one of my own things yesterday and had no problems at all!
I have a similar experience with freecycle.
I've been on our local free-cycle for over a year now and find it very good. You do get the odd 'no show' but as a rule most people turn up when they say they will. We do have some 'car-booters' who take stuff and then flog it on, but once they are known they are banned from the site. It tends to be the usual people on the site so you get to know them and it is so brilliant to be able to give stuff away instead of having to dump it in landfill. Just wish people would give you more time to collect, some ask for it to be collected 'that' evening or the next day and it isn't always possible. It's still a great idea though.
Love freecycle - I think it depends a lot on where you live r.e. the others in the network and how successful it works.
Freecycle is one of the greatest concepts, unfortunately it involves humans. I often notice 're-posts' because someone didn't show up.
I'd like to see the moderators track these people if they are reported as a no-show and ban them if it becomes a habitual problem with an individual.
I think what may happen sometimes is a person will say they want something but upon learning how far they have to drive to get it have to reconsider if it's worth the gas it takes for the jaunt. It still doesn't excuse one from being discourteous though.
Maybe if more posters would also list their city in the initial posting this wouldn't happen so much. It's a shame that the unreliable can spoil it for those who really benefit from the program.
did you know freecycle has taken law suites out on people who want to copy thier idea?
and some of the mods are really replying to offers from people before they even approve the e-mail before going out?

i found this web site for the uk only called realcycle
and freecycle have even tried to bully them to stop but because of a cerntain law freecycle can't touch them
http://www.realcycle.co.uk/about.asp...
i think that is a good idea but i have had problems. on one occasion i went to pick something up and i had gone out of way and they weren't in. did not let me know. and another left some clothes outside and someone else took them.
but in general it is a very good idea
