Could London flood ?

Why or why not ?

Answer:
Some parts do, regularly.

The river Quaggy regularly overflows its banks in bad weather particularly around the Lewisham area.
I remember the Bermondsey area flooding badly about 20 years ago - it was a combination of heavy rain and high tide causing the storm drains to not be able to cope and the excess water came up through the drains into the streets and some of the ground floor flats along Jamaica Road flooded.
I can also remember the Effra - one of the 'lost' rivers of London flowing along the aptly named Brixton Water Lane when I was a teenager.
There is an excellent book called 'The Lost Rivers of London' which has probably been out of print for years now which gives a lot of information about flooding on some of these rivers in the earlier part of the 20thC. I seem to remember that it mentions that the reason Green Park is so called and often gets so muddy in winter is that one of these rivers used to run through it!

It is worth remembering that much of south London along the river bank is actually drained marshland so if it rains the way it did yesterday.....
Yup but 2015 (Not really that far away) due to global warming it could be under water
The link below is as good as any. Of course London could flood. Why else did they build the Thames Flood Barrier? In the 1980s when it was first built, it was raised just a couple of times a year. In 2003, it was raised 19 times. If they don't think ahead and increase the flood protection defences as the sea levels rise, then London will probably be completely underwater by 2100.
well if it does lets hope that bridge doesnt fall down again.. lol
Yes it could & with the way weather is going perhaps it will very soon?
unlikely
they built the flood barrier to protect London against high tides ,but what happens to all the thames water that cant reach the sea because the barrier is in the way
Of course London could flood thats why so many billions were spent constructing the Thames barrier. What makes me wonder is, is it only London because the rest of the country cannot have funding for flood defence( JUST CHECK BACK RE THE RECENT FLOODS ) How many areas in YORKSHIRE were denied money for flood defence even though it was common knowledge that most of the areas that did flood had been predicted as flood prone areas
yes, that is why they build Thames barriers. London get flooded if there is a heavy rainfall, I remember some parts of North West London, Killburn, Willesden were flooded few years ago, basement in one of my colleague's house was full of water, all food was washed away. many cars were totally submerged in water,
Yep !!... Maybe as a major contributor to polluting the environment, they should be expected to reap what thet have sown. !!
