What is the alternate product for petrol or petroleum products?

Answer:
It depends where you want to use it.
if you mean for example car fuels, on the short run the answer is biofuels.
Currently commercially available technologies are biomass based bioethanol and biodiesel. Bioethanol can be tanked into cars that use gasoline and biodiesel for cars using diesel fuel.
These components can be blended into fossil (traditional) fuels or even can be used pure. However, they are not compatible with all existing car engines, damage can occur after prolonged use. Usually they say that up to 5% blend no problems should ever occur. Small modifications might be needed for higher blends. There are cars available that can run on pure biofuels.
Currently bioethanol is produced from mainly sugar beet or corn, major producers are brasil and usa. Biodiesel comes from oil seeds such as rape, sunflower, soy or palm oil. Major producer is germany and eu as a whole.

Second generation biofuels will be commercially available after 2010, they have better environmental properties and can be produced from a wider range of feedstock.

Later natural gas seems a good substitute, and finally, hydrogen. These technologies are not mature enough yet to be economically feasible.
