I have been advised that margrine containers are not suitable (toxic) for storing food in freezer. Is this tru
Answer:
This is an urban legend. There are no Dioxins in plastics. In addition freezing actually works against the release of chemicals. Chemicals do not diffuse as rapidly in cold temperatures, which would limit chemical release if there were dioxins in plastic.
This is also false for heating thing up in plastic containers in the microwave. For more info see the link below.
Yes it is true
No
This was a hoax put out several years ago about plastics in general
"Rolf Halden of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health has expertly debunked the rumour linking plastic to cancer. According to Halden the claim is an urban legend. He explains that:
Freezing actually works against the release of chemicals. Chemicals do not diffuse as readily in cold temperatures, which would limit chemical release if there were dioxins in plastic, and we don't think there are."
The concern is in heating. While is it rather safe in cool temperature like freezer, some people might want to defreeze their food in microwave. That's when it can be bad for you.
Yet another bit of urban folk lore. It's not true, stop worrying.
